Year Round Chicks At The Local Feed Store!?!?!?!

newchickenfamily, really, all year?!?!? Do they have a break during Winter? How often do they get them in and do they know which breeds in advance? What about ducks? We lost our only duck last week to 4 coons and want to get a couple muscovy females or even hatching eggs (anybody???)

Last time I was in (2 weeks ago) they had a whole tub of Barred Rocks, RIR's and some others that I didn't recognize. There MIGHT have been ducks, but I don't remember. (they have always had ducklings in the past) I think they order from Ideal and I'm assuming they can only get what Ideal is hatching. The owners name is John and I hear he is pretty knowledgeable. I asked one of the worker guys if they had them year round and he said yes. Give them a call to get the scoop!!

BTW: My 2 DD's just joined the Poultry 4-H group and we'll be taking them on a field trip to Alamo Hay next month.

I better leave my $$$ at home.

I've been going to Pratts in Glendale every month since April and they have had baby chicks every time.

I was SOOO tempted to get a little Turkey chick, you know grow my own Thanksgiving. Maybe next year.

California feedstores are dangerous places year round! Fortunately, there are at least four in Chico, I went to all of them on Friday. Now I know the two safest ones. I only got 2 EE's and 2 BR at one of the dangerous ones, and I only got 2 SLW, 2 GLW and 1 Mille Fleur D'Uccle at one of the other unsafe ones!
The 2 safe to shop ones dont carry chicks, so I will go there to get my feed and do my shopping from now on!!!

Because I have no self control or will power

What fun! I would not be able to help myself. I don't drink and I don't smoke, but I sure am addicted to chickens!
I just set up a second bator, eggs should arrive on Wed. have two groups of chicks in the computer room, 10 days old, and 3 weeks old. next hatch is Halloween, then the 30 quail for the neighbor....

Well I don't know if I'm addicted to chickens yet, but I'm close. Back in graduate school the guys thought I was weird. They just couldn't believe that I had never tried a cigarette or a tobacco product of any kind... never ever put one anything like that in my mouth. That I had never tasted anything with alcohol in it. That I had no clue what coffee or tea tasted like.... and at age 26 most of them figured I was a liar when they figured out that I was a virgin.

Well a couple of years later, I found a wonderful, gorgeous woman who had never tried tobacco, had never tasted anything with alcohol, had never tasted coffee or tea and who had never been intimate with a man... now 21 years later we have 7 kids who are all living the same way.

Life is wonderful.
