Hi, I am just wondering if anyone has come across this before?
My 5 sex linked pullets are starting to have their legs turn from yellow to silver.
I have done some googling and read up on scaly mites which can cause this, but could it be anything else?
They are not in pain or irrated, but if it is mites I want to try to resolve it ASAP.
Also, this is a backyard flock, we live in city suburbia, so I am surprised if it is mites. Does anyone have tips on how to kill them? (The mites, not my pullets!).
Thanks!

Looks fine, however if the scales start to lift up, they are mites. I have heard you could use coconut oil or like some type of greasy oil to cure it...not too sure though

Vaseline would work as you want to suffocate them. Not too sure on how coconut oil would work as it would just slide down the leg

If the legs used to be yellow
And the chickens are laying eggs regularly
And the legs are becoming less yellow

That is perfectly normal. Yellow color gets moved out of the legs into the egg yolks. Beaks, skin at the vent, and various other places also become less yellow as the hen lays.

I was just thinking of this the other day, my 4 red sex links have exactly the same thing and have wondered what the heck it is!
