I recieved 7 shipped eggs and set them with 17 of my own eggs. All of my eggs hatched. i had 1 of the shipped eggs hatch and the rest had runny, yellow yolks after 24 days in the bator.

Anyone have a guess as to what happened?

I had the exact thing happen to my eggs on my first attempt at hatching. I had 24 eggs (12 blue Orppingtons, 6 Wellsummers, 6 blue Auracaunas) set and waited until the 25th day to open them. I used a Top Hatch incubator and a hygromter. I thought I did everything right. It was suggested by some BYC members that the eggs were x-rayed by the Post Office, rendering them sterile. I have a new batch in there now from a local lady(who also said the PO probably nuked them), so hopefully the mail order issue of x-rays will have been avoided this time.

I had one hatch. I hope the PO didn't x-ray them. I paid 22.00 for these eggs and now I have A 22.00 chick. The box was clearly marked HATCHING EGGS. That's just great. I never thought about that/ I guess I'll have to get all my eggs here in AR.

It's usually impossible to pinpoint exactly what happened to eggs in shipping or before unless they are obviously poorly packaged or the box is damaged. They may not have been scrambled but the yolks will break down after incubating. The seller could have collected bad eggs, stored them poorly, shipped them too old, etc.. Then the post office could have scrambled them, froze them, cooked them..... Impossible to tell after they've sat around for 24days at 100F.

I had some old (unshipped/local) eggs. I picked 3 out of the bator after candling at about 14-16 days coz they looked too clear, and when cracked there was nothing but runny yolk. I think they were either infertile or too old, I know their problem didn't have anything to do with the post office.

The same thing happened to me too. But these eggs were from my hens under a broody hen. I had 6 eggs and my hen, Loko, was a first timer. She was terrific about sitting on them and protecting them. But after 25 days, no chicks, just runny, yolky stuff. I think my rooster, Herman, might have been molting just prior and may not have been feeling very frisky.
