Hello everyone, I have been noticing a slight color change in my hen’s overnight droppings since last week. The hen is a supposedly a red sex link, she is around 4 years in age, I don’t know her weight. She feeds on MannaPro 16% all flock crumble with probiotics. She is showing no signs of sickness, she looks fine, and lays consistently, so I do not believe she is sick but I wonder if these droppings are the first signs of illness. Overnight, she has these droppings.

The poo part is brown, which is normal, but the urates, which are supposed to be white in color are yellow.

Strangly, only her overnight droppings have this yellow cap on them. Her droppings in the morning look pretty normal. Her is a picture of a dropping expelled while free ranging.

@azygous I have another question on the poop if you don’t mind answering. I have seen this other poop with a yellow urate color except it seems darker than the one I showed before. Again, this kind of poo only shows up overnight before I open the coop. Is this a another sign of dehydration?

Are your chickens free ranging and finding a lot of different things to eat, from insects to grass to nuts and berries? The poop looks like free range poop and it seems to have a lot of grit in it, as well.

Are all your chickens behaving normally? I would see no issue with that poop unless you have a chicken behaving questionably.

Yes, the hen free ranges and gets lots of bugs, grass and weeds throughout the day. I also do see her picking up rocks as grit sometimes too. She doesn’t seem to be behaving oddly so I guess I shouldn’t worry much huh? I think I’ll still keep a lookout on her droppings though, thanks.:)
