Littermate syndrome: http://www.doglistener.co.uk/choosing/siblings.shtml

I
know it may seem like bogus and my Cousin thought so too until he bought two sibling weaner dogs. After they turned two years they turned on one another, were very small and ended up ripping each others ears off.

I have two sisters that are now 6 years old. I had never heard of the littermate syndrome, howevere both my girsl are a bit aggressive with new dogs, However, They have never been aggressive with each other. I always chalked up their initial dog aggression to under-socialization, but their may be something to the littermate syndrome.

To The OP...Oh My Gosh! How could you say no? Those are some cu-ute puppies!

It has a lot do with individual time. Living together isn't an issue. It's if they are given the chance to go on separate walks and develop themselves. My Cousins dogs lived in a house together ALL THE TIME, rarely went anywhere and when they did it was together. Given the house is pretty large and I sure am jealous of it but they were never separated. They are so very small despite being from Dachshunds that are above standard breed size and weight. They are aggressive to other dogs and sometimes get into a massive bloody fight. Ginger had the remainder of her ripped ear removed and Paula has a large row of stitches across her shoulders. After the first big fight (ear damage) my Cousin started to listen to his Vet but it is a little late for that. The dogs go to separate training classes and his Mother is intervals the dogs at her house on weekends but it won't ever be "fixed". When they are away from each other they are obsessive about it too.

It is a monstrous situation and I am so surprised to hear how many people buy puppies in pairs and breeders allow this disaster to happen.
My Vet has always said that a GOOD breeder would never sell two puppies together.

My Littermates are Kitties that I just adopted 3 of them 2 girls and a boy, just turned a year old. One of the girls had been seperated from the other 2 for awhile. I don't know if that has an affect on the "litter dynamics"

Have fun with the puppies. I know I've got fur flying everywhere

Thanks thats great information... and funny enough I am already doing all the things suggested in the article...

I dont just have the 2 puppies, I have 2 older dogs too. so one of the puppies gets crated with my 13 year old dog, and the other puppy gets crated with my other 18 month old min pin in another room.

they get walked separately and trained separately because my DD is the owner of one and my DH is the owner of the other so their schedules are different, therefore different schedules for the pups

when they get playing to rough I break it up but thats usually when they are rough housing with the cat

(who loves it he will roll over and call them)

Taraann min pins are hard to house train but hopefully these two will fall in line with my other one. She is litter trained, as well as outside trained.
Abby, my 18 month old min pin has a puppy pad in a shallow plastic container a bit bigger then a litter pan. If I am say in the basement and cant hear her knocking on the back door to get out she will go to the pee pad in the litter box and go. She will also do this when I am say upstairs in the shower, making beds. When I am away from the room for an extended amount of time. (my dogs are not allowed up stairs to the bedrooms) when I am out of the home and over night they are crated and I think this is why I have had success

the puppies follow suit

Thats great Dar! They should grow up fine and dandy this way. It is so cute too that one belongs to you daughter and the other to your DH.

If you can, bottle me some puppy breathe!
