Yet again...HORROR in the hen house. :(( **FINAL UPDATE!!!**

OK so shooting isn't an option BUT I am for going to the local paper! (give them the pics you shared with us too!) You would have a public outcry and the dogs would be very very secured or removed.

I don't want to be a downer or anything, but I think you should Know, if you are considering a paintball gun, there are some things you should be aware of. They also can be very dangerous to ppl if not used correctly. A paintball can easily put out an eye (a woman here went blind in one eye due to a random paintball shot) so if there are ppl in the area you need to be very careful. That is why when you play paintball you always wear a face mask, and guns not in use should have a plug on the end. As well the guns can be a very inaccurate shot. You will not always hit the target you are aiming for. I have seen some pretty wild shots happen, and any little bit of dirt or broken paintball's in the barrel will cause your shot to go wild (anyone who has played the game can atest to that! Sucks when you have a great shot at someone!!!) The bruises you can get are shocking (I was hit in the neck when my head ws turned...and OMG...I was black for two weeks!!!). I think because of where you live any projectile solution will come with it's hazards. I love paintball, been playing for years, but you have to be very responsible about it. The guns available now are very sophisticated and have hair triggers, so please if you have children teach them the proper way to use or keep them away from it! Thanks for listening to my two cents!!

Hey all...here's a quick update with Feather, with a picture of her wound now.

She is regrowing feathers and has a decent scab. Now, in the picture, the wound looks a little dirty.

I have cleaned it since the picture...she had been outside all day in the kennel beside the outside run to be with her family.

Keep your fingers crossed...but she seems to be healing great!

Yay for Feather!!!

My roos got into a fight today...a BAD fight...enough to where I had to remove 2 of them and take them to the feed store to re-home them.

Feather was outside in the dog kennel that we have for her, and when all that stuff with the roos happened, hubby put her outside the kennel to free range some, as we needed the carrier to transport one of the roos.

Well, we decided to let ALL of the hens and the 1 rooster we kept free range 'til we got back home...it was just 1/2 hour 'til sunset.

I made sure there was no picking or pecking before we left...she was just overjoyed to be able to go in their favorite dirt spot and start kicking it up!!!

So, when I got home from work tonight, I go outside to do a head count, and there is Feather, nestled into the roo up on the perch.

HOORAY for FEATHER!!!! Her saga of recovery is over!!!

Her re-introduction worried me more than her wounds.

Thank you all SO much for your insight, wisdom, and words of concern. (((HUGS)))

HI! I am new to this forum, but had to post, as I have had the same experience with my neighbors. Luckily thier dog was unable to kill my rooster, but sure did beat him up. I found him in our creek inside of a log soaking wet in the middle of winter. I immediately brought him inside and gave him a warm bath and held him in a towel until he dried. His name is pepper. The one that luvs me (See my name)
I called the local Dog law inforcement, she did nothing but tell the neighbors to keep thier dog in their yard.

I bought a gun. I have since saved my birds from many a fox, weasel and raccoon with it.
Dogs are not a huge problem where I live out in the country, but I will not tolerate a predator coming into my yard and attacking my pets.
Sounds harsh, but the pain of losing a pet is too much for me to handle. It is my responsibility to protect them.
The neighbors are aware that I have a gun, which I shoot weekly at targets. The dog has not been in my yard but ONCE and the moment he got loose they called and ran down here to get him. My lab had already let me know the dog was in the yard.
So sorry for your loss. Time heals.
