Yet, another rat

I feel your pain they are the only thing that get past the dogs. And after we lost our barn cats they came back. We just have one cat that kills them and shes not outside much. When i had a group of barn cats we never had the issue.

Another one today. This one was dead and had fly eggs in his mouth so I must have not checked the trap for a couple of days and he froze or starved. Darn!

Cats don't do well on roof rats, cats don't do well again my Blue Lacy either.
My one cat decimated a whole colony of rats but they were the big brown kind. Are roof rats another story?

With cats its all their history and individual, i find the energic breeds are amazing hunters. The sickly colony ferals dont seem to be great hunters. ITs a aquaired talent some cats learn by getting the neck of a stoat or rat makes them helpless and easy kill. I know a farm that has a cat that does this and has decimated their rat population. He said he would pay me 100 if i find him another cat like the one he is. Finding cats with that skill is tough.

Get a couple barn cats. I have one and he is great at catching mice and rats
Want to sell me your best hunter?

this kitten learned a young age how to kill them see the throat grab

One thing my bengal who is the best hunter i have ever had has never been trained by her mother to hunt yet she is the best huntress. Issue is shes a indoor cat but i wonder how she self taught, she catches largest prey

Wow! Impressive video. That is one determined cat

Self preservation, she lets go and the rat will chomp her! My dog learned the hard way. Now she bites and flips, bites and flips until the perfect presentation and then she crunches. She loves killing rats.

Roof rats are 100% nocturnal and mostly arboreal. A cat would have to rule the night to do it. I don't like people who let their cats run free in town. The walk and pee on my cars and dig up my planters. I usually let the dog out when I see them on my cameras and that is the end.
