Yet another sand/no sand question for my PDX coop and run (with details)

@jonalisa So you never 'clean' up any poops from your run?
Pics would be great here....along with knowing how many birds are contributing.
I use sand as well so clean and no smell or flies or moisture problems. So happy with it.

Beautiful coop! I also love sand and would never use anything else. So easy to keep clean and odor free when it stays *dry*.

I do not think sand works well for outdoor spaces that get wet or stay damp, though. Wet sand gets smelly, moldy (around food sources) and compacted. It really depends on the set-up as to whether sand will work well or not.

It works great for me, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't like to scoop poop and rake daily. I prefer a few minutes of daily maintenance to big, smelly clean-outs a few times per year. Not for everyone, but works well for me.
