Yet another scaly leg mite query.

I have 4 young BO hens who regularly scratch and dust in a bath of wood ash, coarse sand, soil, and DE. I am noticing that the crevices between the scales of skin on their legs are accumulating either dirt and wood ash or they're developing the beginnings of scaly leg mites. Can anyone tell from these pics which it might be? TIA!
