DH came home from work today and went right to the kitchen window. Were are the chickens? Why aren't they out? Are they ok? How come they stay in the coop all the time? Have you got eggs yet? Can we eat them?

I have a phoenix you might be able to borrow for a short while for breeding. He's kinda desperate right now, but doesn't have any hens of his own. The other roosters won't let him get near any of their hens!

I'll need him back after I get the phoenix pullets in, and they start growing old enough for him to breed with. But they won't even arrive until April 7th.

The problem with hand-turning is things like overnight field trips with kids/school.  That and laziness.  LOL
Hmm. May not be popular but I only turn mine once daily anyway, past the first five or so days.

I'm just sayin. ;) lol

Now when I hatch out a buncha deformed chicks, nobody speaks! But it never hurt my duckies.

I'm tired and sore just from reading what all you did today, Tygress.

(or maybe that's the pain pills I'm taking that is making me feel that way lol )

Crap ... I need to get an incubator running to use for hatching. I've got hatch dates all over the place in incubators with turners. That ain't gonna work.

Don't worry about it. In my experience, hatch rates seem to turn out BETTER if I leave them in the turner. I'm pretty sure momma hen doesn't stop turning her eggs, either. She's probably still adjusting them up to the point where they hatch. And large fowl don't have the issue of crawling up under the turning trays, so they'll be fine.

You bad egg mommy!! Shame on you.

Funny you say that LTygress.. I always kinda wondered why mamas don't stay perfectly still the last three day...

"You're doing it wrong!"

lol
