YO GEORGIANS! :)

:lau  Ok, my chicken obsession started like this. My family had some friends over for dinner one night. The son who is a few years older than me raises chickens, he has like 50. They brought us some eggs. The next day, we ate some for breakfast, and the eggs tasted and looked so much better. I decided I wanted chickens. My parents said 5 or 6.  We went to TC Country and got 3 and then went to Sacketts and got three. Well about 2-3 weeks later, I wanted more. So my mom and I convinced my dad to let me order 4 more, well 4 turned into 8. Sadly one died the next day and another drowned a few days later in the waterer. That made 12. We had them for about 2 years. We then moved so I gave them to some family friends. Well me moved again (current house) and this voice inside my head was saying chickens chickens chickens chickens chickens chickens chickens all day and all night. I convinced my parents yet again to let me get chickens. So off we went to Ruckers and I got 4 girls, 2 Araucanas(EE), a barred rock and a RIR. Now that voice inside my head is saying get more chickens get ducks get more chickens get ducks get more chickens get ducks, but this time my parents said not until we move to our 30 acres. I NEED MORE CHICKENS!!!!!:barnie
You do all the things that I don't know how to do, but would love to! I have spent most of my childhood in the mountains and can't wait to live a little farther north. I also have chickens and 3 fruit trees that are pretty much useless. I love to garden though my current one isn't very big and I'm afraid to can. Our garden is pretty small so we don't have much to freeze or can anyway. There is no way you could get me to process my own meat though, no sir'ee. I make pickles and pasta if that counts. Don't know how to knit or crotchet but I'm learning to sew. I don't know anyone even close to my age that likes doing anything I like to do either. BYC people are definitely my kind of people though!

I have a question, do your fruit trees actually bear any fruit?

HAHAHAHAHA:lau

WOW!!!

They look like their bodies are to big for their heads!

I would love to have a few ducks runnin around. I would have to make a little natural looking pond for them and stock it with fish. That way they have a lil place to swim. Although I donr really know anything about ducks.

Oh my god, PRIORITY mail?? Really?!?
These are live CHICKS, right? Not hatching eggs??

If so, whoever sent them out is STUPID! PRIORITY mail may say 2-day, but it has no actual GUARANTEED delivery date or time! Express is the only guaranteed delivery service.

Priority just provides tracking and insurance against damages.

Yes, chicks. Cackle Hatchery.

Just know that unless you have one super duper commercial sized filtration system on that little pond, it will have to be drained and refilled about every other day. Ducks are filthy creatures. And their poop smells WAY worse than chickens. They're fun but a lot of work in small enclosures.

Eek! Yea, maybe not. Its nice to think about though.

Yes it is.

It makes them "stupid" by our standards, sometimes. They can't see out from under that crest, so they will often wander off and get lost. They also don't see predators coming, and are the first to get picked off. So if you keep polish, they NEED a very secure enclosure.
Haha, I would love to have a few, they're so pretty

Not quite. I really hope they make an exception and drive yours out. But typically trucks only leave the sort facility to deliver mail to the individual post offices once per day - and it's always first thing in the morning. With your chicks not even being SCANNED until almost 7am, they didn't make it onto that truck.

But most likely they were sent via Express mail. If so, put in a claim IMMEDIATELY when you pick them up. You should, at the very least, get the cost of shipping refunded - more if it was insured and any of them died in transit.
Have you ever ordered chicks or eggs and picked them up on your truck?

So would I, my parents had originally said yes, but changed their mind when they found out how messy they are. They said I can get some when we move though! I think I would use kiddie pools because our 30 acres is literally in the mountains.

They would most likely have an acre to share with the chickens and maybe some goats and alpacas and whatever other farm animals end up in there? I know they're really messy and smelly. Thats why Im not allowed to have any in this house.

I was trying to figure out which of us had the largest number of chickens. Why aren't y'all doing the Easter hatch along? I know you've got eggs hatching around then.
that'd probably be me, lol. Lots of chickens, chicks, and I'm just starting hatching for the year
I haven't counted, but it's probably close to 100, counting birds over 3 months of age
