That chick is *still* alive, so I'm pretty sure it'll be okay. But it's probably going to be like a huge bruise covering his entire side, so he'll be tender for a long while. Because of that, he'll probably be in my room for a bit. And that's going to SUCK because it's a cornish rock, and they STINK! And sadly, this family doesn't really learn from their mistakes. When I moved in, I had to stop getting the oldest boy to punish the dog for "going" inside of the house. They NEVER TOOK HIM OUT, never took him on walks, etc. But they'd still punish him for relieving himself inside the house. I told them you can't punish a dog for doing what's natural, when you're not giving him any other options! I put a stop to that one really quick!!Well hopefully instead of "beating the dog" the humans have learned to secure the brooder when there is a dog/cat in the house. It was clearly NOT canine error.
My phoenix roo is still alive, laying in the basket, breathing normal, but not opening his eyes. He only moves occasionally. I've put him into the chicken diaper, so no worries about keeping him inside. He DOES have some food in his crop, so no need to force feed him either. I did force a few drops of water into his mouth, because I loaded the water down with antibiotics. I'm not quite sure how his head is going to heal with 1 inch of an actual MISSING scalp. I'd take a picture, but I don't want to remove the gauze until tomorrow when I change it, and it's pretty gruesome.
But back on the positive....
ALL THREE GOSLINGS HAVE HATCHED!!!!
OMG, I'm so excited about these new babies! I'm in between more chick baths from the nasty brooder soaked by rain into the clean brooder. Once they are all clean, dry, and moved into the clean brooder, I'm disassembling the other one and bleaching it. I'm also about to clean out the indoor brooder so the goslings can go in it. I'll probably bleach it down, too. None of the babies in there were sick, and it's still relatively clean, but I'm putting out all of the stops on making sure my goslings live and grow to healthy adults!
