Did you also squeeze out all the pus you could? I have things like that on my cats from time to time.. They usually (well, always) heal well.. Do you keep betadine around also? I keep stock at my house and just douse stuff with it when needed.

I would suggest tax auctions and foreclosures. Lot across the street from me (18 acres) went for $400 an acre. Grant it no house on it but still, folks are desperate and there are deals to be found.

Could also consider renting in a rural area if you aren't picky. Sheesh I rent a small house with 4 acres for $450 a month, the owners are just glad I pay rent every month, they couldn't care less about my dogs and chickens!

Lots of options out there, just be creative.

My problem stems from not being able to FIND the properties. The schools here are really good, especially with my dd being deaf, so I want to stay in this county. Plus my husband and I can't get approved for a loan so it depends on granddad. Which means it has to be in Spalding county. If any of y'all know any realtors, let me know. Lol.

Does Grandpa or another relative live in Spalding County? If so as long as you are close enough to commute and bring DD to school you should be fine. Just register her under a relatives address.

I would be upset over the newly built coops too. Could you consider fighting city hall (or whomever) or networking and bribing a politician for a waiver?

Hello All.
I'm trying to motivate myself to get moving and get to the farm, but the rain is making me drag my feet. It's a good thing that I love those critters. I'm also starting to hit that half -panicked stage that happens before you go out of town and leave a bunch of critters for other people to take care of .

I'm not 100% sure. But my sister took the ducks and geese out of their pen for a little swim. She ran inside to the bathroom and when she got back out, one duck and one goose were out of the pool, on the ground, and couldn't hold their heads up. The goose's neck finally "popped" back in to place or something, but the duck passed away in her hands. I was at work when she called me about them, so I don't know what happened at all. We have a 2x10 propped up onto a metal chair to let them climb out of the pool. She thinks they jumped down, and the two injured ones hit their necks on the chair on the way down - one simply dislocating it, and the other breaking it.

As fast as they have been selling out - I wouldn't trust them to be ABLE to hold them for me!



But, I called all three locations that are semi-close to me (Griffin, McDonough, and Covington) and NONE of them got bulbs in today. Their trucks arrived, and the stock got unloaded, but not a single pack of heat lamp bulbs were on any of them. The one in Griffin offered for me to buy the single heat bulbs that they tend to keep in their hardware aisle. But I need about 4 bulbs, and the ones in that aisle are about $7 each. The two-pack that they sell is only $8.99.  So I didn't go for it.


Yeah, I really need the bulbs, and tonight is supposed to dip down to 32 degrees. But I'm not paying almost twice as much for a single bulb. The babies will just have to deal with their 75W incandescent bulbs tonight.

We already checked on a waiver. It has to be a minimum of 3 acres.

Hi there - chickens can be a bit of trial and error, but I do not use pine shavings for my little ones. I use paper towels because they are clean and not slick like newspaper. Shavings can have some dust and things to which they are sensitive. Also, do you have a heat lamp on them? It needs to be warm enough but not too hot or too close to your bedding source. Also they need room to be able to move out of the heat lamp's heat when they want.

I am thinking they were out in the pool for way too long and one died of hypothermia while the other nearly died from it. Accidental neck breaks/sprains seem more than a little unlikely. If they jumped from too high they would have internal injuries or break their legs.

Actually, the neck thing is a possibility. I have had a problem with my baby pheasants in the past where one of them slipped on newspaper and her neck became crooked - the term is Crook Neck. I tried splinting it but she died. Our local feed store was very familiar with this condition.

Also some Metacam for pain works wonders. And as an antiinflammitory. What antibiotic did you use? Cefa?
