I'm in the nursery! 3 Golden Cuckoo Marans out already! Looks like 2 females and 1 male. They are still wet, so will have to wait until they dry....but you are suppose to be able to tell them apart at birth. Girls are darker with small head spots and boys are lighter with bigger head spots. Right now, I am only going on the head spot since, like I said, they are still wet. 10 more pipping right now, and day 21 doesn't even officially start until tonight! So excited for these chicks since the eggs traveled all the way from California! BTW, the lady I am hatching these GCM for, may want to sell a few extra. Anyone interested?

Well crap. That's better than I did here though, 0 of 14. They all had bad air cells and only 3 reattached. And more than half were infertile.

Yep! But that one I knew exactly what happened, and I actually told HER to keep the money. Her son had died - her ONLY CHILD at that - and I wasn't about to take a mere $60 back from a lady who lost her child. She said everything when she called and said "you never expect your kids to go before you"

I kept my distance about bugging her, then. I figured even if I never got those eggs, the money went to a good purpose.

Sadly, those were the five eggs that never developed.

Okay, home from work, and hit all kinds of chaos. EVERYBODY is over here today for Easter including my mom, brother, friends of my sister, her entire family, extended family, people I've never even met, and lots and lots of kids...

I made sure to lock the door to my room while I was at work. Too many small hands that could knock over incubators, grab chicks by the neck, etc. I also made the older kids keep the laundry room locked (where the first brooder is) and keep geese and ducks locked up. I feel bad, because they wanted to graze so bad!

But their bulb blew today, and the cornish rocks' light tripped a circuit breaker. But it's not a circuit breaker attached to the main electrical panel, and we have no clue where it actually is. So I had to stretch an extension cord inside a window into my nephew's room to get their light back on. But they are both on, and the chicks, ducks, and geese are happy and warmer now.

While I was at work though, I had three EE's hatch. Five more are due tomorrow. I had one lady come buy some EE chicks this afternoon, and one interested in silkie chicks that I'm waiting to hear back from. I hope these people come through, because I need chicken feed and don't get paid until Thursday, and I really don't feel like cooking rice, oatmeal, and tuna-fish "glop" every day until then.

And my poor Sumatra roo is starting to look like an ugly hen because the extensive rain this year, and accompanying mud, has almost completely wiped out his beautiful tail!

So that's what we have going on here, fowl-wise. I'm thinking about having a "bonus" easter egg hunt tomorrow for... the... easter egger eggs. Ever since the raccoon got into their enclosure, they've been free-range and I can't find their eggs again. So what a WONDERFUL way to celebrate the holiday the way I used to as a kid, and accomplish a goal at the same time, right? What do you kids mean "NO"? It could be lots of fun! Right? Fine, never mind bratty kids. No wonder you're "too old for candy" now...
