 I have a few Golden Comets, and I love them! My girls are super layers, very docile, and very pretty Personally, I love my barnyard mixes better than pure breeds. So far fl ) I haven't had any illness issues with any of my mutts. They are hardy, good layers, pretty, and sweet. It took them a while to get used to me, but now they come with I call, and they get all underfoot whenever I'm outside. 

Nothing wrong with hatcheries, I have some hatchery chicks myself, but definitely buy local if you can. It helps support your local backyard chicken keepers, plus you can see the birds before you buy, which is always nice! 

I second the giggle about getting over your head.  Before you know it, you'll be wishing you had more, and more, and MORE!

I believe it is not a "breed", as I don't think the offspring would "breed true" (they wouldn't mate and produce golden comets themselves). If i remember correctly, they are a hybrid of two or more breeds. Googling now...

The first pic is of Rhodebars, The second pic is of Crested Cream Legbars and the last pic is their offspring. I am covered up with pullets roos and eggs. You can find out all about these auto-sexing breeds on Greenfire Farms website. Oh! By the way the Crested Cream Legbar lays the most beautiful powder-blue eggs you'll ever see.

Well, if you get too impatient, I am collecting plenty of fertile eggs everyday. There's no better time than the present.

He really does have gorgeous birds, y'all. Great drive up there ... wonderful people ... it's a win/win/win.

There are LOTS of Enablers here! For example..*cough, cough* : If you incubate eggs, you have the time they spend in the incubator and brooder to build another coop . C'Mon, everybody else is doing it... try it you'll like it.

Good question. I always thought they were a breed, but after reading MrsZoo's post below, now I must Google it.

Awesome. Thanks for posting. I bred a few of my golden comets with my white roo (not sure what he was). I'm not sure, but I think I only had 1 of that cross hatch. It's white with a creamy-orange color coming out. I'll be sure to post a pic once he/she feathers out a bit more.
I've also got golden comets with my EE roo, and some with my game roo.
