YO GEORGIANS! :)

Eww Robo. You're such a boy :p

I have a question about these Rhodebars and Cream Legbars. The online literature says they're awesome layers, but no mention of desirability as eatin' birds. I realize all chcikens are eatable (thinking of Depp's Willy Wonka now), but would these be worth the time and effort to process or would I be better off labeling them as "eggs only" birds?

(I realize the question might evoke an "eww" response from some -sorry)

I'll take that as a compliment

And I'm setting the reminder in my phone...
Excellent woman!

Speaking of eatin' birds... has anyone here been processing ducks for a while? I need to know if using a plucking machine or dipping them in paraffin is the norm or is there an easier way. If the details bother folks, you could PM me.

<---- ignoring Robodork

I recently harvested some of my older layers. 2 of them were so small it was pointless to put them in the freezer. So - I boiled them to make stock (beautiful stock by the way). Then I put the pulled meat in the fridge for some salads and sandwiches. All of my chickens will eventually be harvested for eating, but some of my girls aren't dual-purpose breeds.

Going forward, though, I will likely try to stick with the heftier breeds so I can get more meat out of them when it's time.

Not sure if any of that helped answer your question, but there's my 2 cents.

Well the Rhodebars are critically endangered to the point of being almost extinct so I wouldn't eat them. AND they're too pretty to eat in my OSHOTINW.

GAFarmGirl87, yes, that was a helpful 2 cents.

Robo, I get the rarity and beauty, believe me. I plan on doing my part to help the birds out. But I need an end-game plan for when my husband complains about the number of non-productive senior pets who are hanging around and eating expensive food, or to avoid a scenario in which 50 extra roosters are playing gladiator games in a bachelor pen.

I don't know if I can eat old chickens. I bet they have wrinkly skin under their feathers.
