YO GEORGIANS! :)

Is it better to let the eggs just lay in the bottom of the bater from Day 18 on or put them in a carton for the last three days thanks

I went and looked through one of the storage buildings on our property and found so much stuff to make a nice looking house for my ducks. I'm so excited that I found some doors and windows. :D It will be perfect for the new runners to grow up in!

I like to put mine in cartons. I put the lowest dip in the air sac facing me. That way all the pips are facing me. The chicks don't get all knocked around either. You should use cardboard cartons with the bottoms cut out and the sides cut deep. The chicks zipper out of them very neatly. I can also see the egg number I have written on the egg and know what eggs/breed hatched and which ones didn't while they are still in the bator.

I read about that. I can't remember the explaination about why it sometimes happens, but the bottom line is that it does happen and the chick should be ok.
I'm freaking out and nearly in tears. I got my 12 chicks in today and my daughter had one egg to hatch so we put her little silkie with my 12 1 day olds and then this. Do you know what I should do for the silkie? It had pasty butt and I cleaned it with a wet qtip then a few minutes later bloody poo. I have water out food out and water/electrolyte/probiotics mix.

Sounds like you did all you could for her at the moment. Hope she does okay.

Valleychicks, there is a section called chicks 101 under the learning center tab. Try looking with a search in that section. Im sure many have faced the same and answered the question. Sometimes no one with quick info is online so I look there when im alone. Best of luck to the chicks.

Oh no, poor little! I wish I knew what to do. I hope a expert can help!
