Goodnight everybody.

After telling y'all about one of my SS roosters being a bit aggressive toward my DH and son yesterday today the two SS roosters earned special treats. Our neighbors have a male peacock that likes to come visit and I usually throw him some sunflower seed. Today the peacock decided to go into the run and eat our chicken's feed. I shewed him out and he acted like he was going to attack me. Ace our head SS rooster made a loud warning noise and puffed up at the peacock. Then the peacock was attacked Ace and our other SS rooster, Silver second in command jumped on the peacock. I was freaking out because neither of our boys have spurs yet but the peacock has very nasty looking spurs. I chased the peacock off with blasts of water from our hose. He will not be getting anymore sunflower seed from me. I think they are going to try to sell him.

I am so glad they defended you and worked together! I would love a peacock but I have heard they can be aggressive! How are your hens and the new run? I am still getting just one egg. I put the one we got today in the incubator as I had taken a clear egg out and had the room. I know it is really too soon to hatch new layer eggs but we shall see!

Well my shipped bantam eggs from ebay hatched! In the end we had 7 beautiful chicks, one was an assisted hatch (stuck in the membrane) and I haven't seen him yet this morning.

Anyway so far it looks like 2 pullets and 5 cockerels. Well I wanted boys....and I sure did get them! And i am loving having the chicks raised by broody bantam hens, they are SOOOOOO QUIIET!!! 2 were hatched in the incubator indoors and they peeped constantly when awake, but as soon as I put them under the bantam hen there was silence.

I have heard chicks raised by hens advance much much faster than those kept in brooders and I think that is true, within one day some of the chicks were climing all over their "mamas" and very very agile. Plus not having to monitor temps constantly is awesome! Mama hen handles all of that!

Video taken yesterday....broody in the coop with her new babies. While both hens are in the coop their area is fenced off so the other curious hens can't bother them.

Our hens are giving us about 3 eggs a day depending on if it is really hot then they hold out on us. LOL! I don't blame them. The new barn coop and run are nearly complete. We still need to do the electric and a ramp to the upper roost for the coop part. I still need to work on my storage end but have to wait until my DH has finished with all the different saws, tools, etc. before I can get it fixed up. Hopefully we will get it all done this weekend depending on the weather. Raining here this morning and boy did we need it. The grass was getting a little crunchy sounding.

How did your eggs do in the incubator?

I haven't forgot, I am going to inquire about their chickens for future reference, and I thought maybe some folks on this thread might be interested for future reference also. Believe me I am keeping my fingers crossed for a frizzled NN or two and possibly a Cuckoo Silkie or two... or three. I just can't pass a place with that many coops and not wonder WHAT'S IN ALL THOSE COOPS! I already have your CCL pullet ready to go. She's ready to leave the brooder, do you have a quarantine pen ready for her? That was a silly question, I know you do. You can get her whenever you want, just say the word and we will bring her to you.

I would be interested in what they have, too! Let us know!
