YO GEORGIANS! :)

Chickens butt was all black...So sad came home and was dieing...nether me or hubby could cull it...
Oh that is sad! Did it look like pasty butt or maybe some type of abscess, or was it dried blood on the vent? I am just curious. There are so many things that can go wrong when you buy new chicks, pullets, cockerels, hens or roos. Sorry you lost your three newbies.

I got them in April, not too new. I honestly didn't look, my husband did. I'm keeping a close eye on the loan surviver of that flock. Sorta stinks, cause i wanted my roo to have a few more hens to bread, and they really became there own little flock, thats down to 1 loaner now. Hopefully the other 4 let her into their flock. Now that we are talking we noticed that they were both lethargic a tad the day before. My thoughts were "oh they are just sleeping in the sun" Rookie chicken raiser mistake

I'm tempted to get some more RRI but I think I'll just manage what I got till spring...Down to 2 RRI hens, 1 RRI roo, and 2 barred rock hens.

On a funny note, My chickens are chasing my cat around...The cat lately has been getting into the chicken coop to lay down and let the chickens lay on him I'm trying to get a photo because its funny

Arg! I give up! Maybe I dreamed that someone said they gave their chickens yogurt to help make the egg shells harder.

Just wanted to share that I got my first breeding pair of chickens ever. Pretty excited to start this phase of my chicken addiction. Let's hope that the no crow collar lives up to its name.

People give yogurt to their chickens all the time, but not necessarily for harder egg shells. You give them oyster shell for that, (or ground up egg shells). The yogurt is usually given as a treat and can help them with stomach issues.
