YO GEORGIANS! :)

So, when the people came to buy the chicks, I showed them my new olive egg.  They wanted to buy the chicken who laid it.....ARE THEY NUTS???!  I waited forever for that chicken to lay that egg!  Now, if the other POL chickens will start laying.....oh what fun it will be!

I think, much like hand knitting, uninitiated people don't realize how much time and effort goes into that first egg.

It's beautiful olive egg! What did you cross to get it?

Got the chick from Anne in Cumming. She has awesome chicks (IMO). She charges $10 a chick, but they are vaccinated and she guarantees the sex chick you want. She will not sell her chicks until they are at least a week old to make sure they are healthy. The hen who laid that egg has a beard and has Marans in her....so EE x Marans.

She has chicks that lay any color egg you might want. She is always on Craiglist.

It's 1 a.m. Do you know where your chickens are?
They just called! They are taking a cab home from the peep show

Have you posted a picture of your Olive Egger? We are supposed to have 3 EEs with one not being a true EE, Molly (Old English Game EE cross) lays a beautiful blue/green egg. We are not sure which of the other two EEs is laying more of a sage green egg. I can't wait until the third one starts laying to see what color egg we get.

Not sure what you mean when you say she's not a "true" EE. EEs are not a breed, they are mixes and are a mix of all sorts of different types of chickens with Ameraucana or Araucana backgrounds. EEs can lay all sorts of colored eggs, different shades of blues or greens or pinks (which is really an extremely light shade of brown) and even brown. The term, Easter Egger, is generally used to describe a chicken who lays a colored egg, but is not one of the true breeds like the Legbar or the Isbar who lay blue or green eggs. Most EEs that will lay the colored eggs should have a pea comb. If you get an EE with a beard, but has a single comb, most likely it will lay a pinkish or brown egg.

A 'breed' is a chicken who will breed true. In other words, ALL of the chickens from a true 'breed' will look exactly alike. So, say you had Rhode Island Reds. ALL of the chickens will be exactly the same color and look like a RIR. EEs, on the other hand, not being a 'breed', but a mix, will produce chicks that are all different colors and some will have beards and some won't from the same parents.

So saying, A true Ameraucana (say a white one) that is bred to different color true Ameraucana, (say a black one), will produce EEs, not another true Ameraucana. That is because those chicks will now produce chicks that will carry either white, black, or mixed genes and will have different colored chicks from the same Mom. Do you understand what I am saying??

Anyway, my Olive Egger is a mix between a blue Marans and an easter egger. She is bluish with some gold markings about her neck (like a Marans) and she has a beard. My other olive egger has no beard, and my other olive eggers that I just hatched are going to be brownish with some black on their heads. So, they are all mixes, too, and can be different colors.

No matter what, I am excited for you about your EEs! They are one of my favorite types of chickens! I love the surprise of what they will grow to look like and I love the anticipation of waiting to see what the egg color will look like! Be sure and send us photos of them!

The pullet on the left is one of the olive eggers without the beard. She has not laid an egg yet. The pullet on the right is one of my EEs. She also has not laid an egg yet! Can't wait to see what I get from them!

OH...Now I understand. I was told by someone else that Molly was not a "true" EE because her dad is an EE and her mom is an Old English Game. This person then told me that a "true" EE is when an Ameraucana is bred with another breed. So now what I understand is that the person that told me that didn't know what they were talking about. So YAY I do have 3 EEs. Love'em!

Also want to say that your EE and Olive Egger in the photo are so pretty! I would love to see a picture of your Olive Egger that is laying!
