YO GEORGIANS! :)

a question for the group that are coming to Robo and GAM's on saturday, who all are bringing food? I was thinking of maybe bringing some pulled pork if there's going to be enough sides and someone will bring a few packs of buns. I'll bring some pork and some of my home made sauce.....

What time will you be getting there? I'll bring food, since I will be empty handed otherwise. I can bake something or my 7 layer salad or my(MS's) Black Eyed Pea/Jalapeno Salad are usually my most requested from friends when BBQs or potlucks are happening.

Hmmm ... I may have to come to this event, too. Sounds like the eats will be pretty good.

Hahahahaha yep hope so well all cities supposed to have a zip code unless you live onThe Beverley Hillbillies Lol

What he meant was that we do have a Temple zip code but we are not near Temple proper.

More chicken drama! I went home on my lunch break today, and found a dead chicken. My 15 mo old EE was lying under the coop. There no signs of predators and no mites around her vent. DS let them out this morning, and I don't know how observant he was. I put them up last night, and didn't see any birds out, but can't be certain. All the other birds seem fine. We've had buckets of rain last night and today, so it could have simply drowned. Is a necropsy worth it? What are the processes/costs involved? RIP Happy Feet
Im so sorry for your lost R.I.P.happy feet.

My beautiful frizzled NN is not so pretty right now! You talk about a really bad molt, well here is one!!!! Almost every feather on her body is gone! Weird thing is that she is still laying eggs. They are not fertile though, I don't think the roosters find her attractive. My poor baby!

Speaking of molting, many of mine are molting. I read this:
Molt

After a hen has been producing eggs for several months, she becomes increasingly likely to molt. Molting and egg production are not mutually compatible, so when molting occurs, egg production ceases. The rest from egg laying allows the hen to restore its plumage condition by shedding old feathers and growing new ones. At the same time, the hen’s reproductive tract is rejuvenated, allowing it to increase its rate of egg production and produce higher quality eggs when it returns to lay. Under natural day lengths, molting tends to coincide with the change in season so that hens molt in the fall after they cease egg production due to declining day lengths. In these circumstances, it is normal for all the hens in a flock to go out of production and molt more or less in synchrony. However, if artificial lighting is provided, a hen may molt at any time of year and not in synchrony with other hens. If this happens, she should return to lay in several weeks.

I had artificial lighting thru the winter.....got many eggs. So, I guess they are all due a rest. (Too bad I just paid the fee for the Farmers Market for May!) Haha on me!
