YO GEORGIANS! :)

I am not sure how my bulldog Lucy is going to do with the chickens yet ,she walked up on one put her paw over the bird and held it to the ground she didn't bite it just held it there we yelled at her and they both ran off I love that dog so I sure hope everyone will get along but she won't be trusted alone with the chickens that is for sure . It is hard to part with pets I hope you do ok with it .

None at the moment. We want to get some for eggs and meat.

Where is a good place in Georgia to buy chickens from? Also, what breed do you recommend?

Welcome to BYC!

I'm also in NE GA.

Many people use cornish crosses for meat. I've also heard of using Red and Black Rangers for meat, but I have no personal experience with either.

In regards to places, it depends on the breeds you are seeking.

For eggs, I personally recommend red stars, black stars, australorps, Buff Orpingtons, barred rocks, and rhode island reds. I have had success with all of them in regards to eggs.

If you are looking for colored eggs, Ameracaunas, Easter Eggers, and Olive Eggers are decent producers.

Here is a link with members different experiences with the different breeds. it's a lot of info, but worth looking at to narrow down your breed interests.

Once you know what breeds you are seeking, we can help you find a good place to buy them.

Hope this helps.
