YO GEORGIANS! :)

I don't know! I don't have ducks.

I had chickens. Then, my daughter thought it would be a great joke on us to order duck eggs! She would just call and say, "Remember, I love you!" and then she would snicker and hang up. So, we didn't know what she was up to until the eggs showed up at the door! That's how we got our runner ducks. But, a lot of folks in this area have farms or lakes and it's just a succession to go from having chickens to adding ducks or goats or emus! Just kidding on the emus, although I did find some hatching emu eggs and showed them to my daughter and had to make her swear she wouldn't buy them!

For me, duck eggs taste sooooo much better than chicken eggs and they are sooo much bigger! My Khaki Campbell lays an egg almost every single day! (Except now, she is broody and sitting on a mound of eggs!) This is her first brood and she isn't very smart about it. She is sneaking the other duck eggs under her every day so she has over 30 eggs in a big heap. Of course, they are in all stages of development and only a few may hatch.....if they can survive the bottom of the pile! It's ok.....if she gets one to 'Mommy" then that's ok with me. Too many ducks = big mess!

Fun! I wish I lived on a farm or large lot. I would love to have ducks but my neighbors would kill me! lol! they already get mad at me for having roosters. Lol! the crow collar helps with that.

we only have chickens, If I had a pond or creek again, I wouldn't mind a few ducks. The neighbors pond draws the canadien geese, I usually try to run them out of my yard, but I've noticed a single by itself the last few days. Just now coming in from church, I noticed it's hobbling on one leg, of course they know when I come outside, to fly off, so I couldn't get close enough to give it any feed.

Geesh I hate the awful mess they make, but I hate to see something suffering too. I don't think it's keeping it from eating, but I am thinking they've run it off since it's hurt, would anyone who knows anything about geese verify they'd do that?

Yep I started with ducks too- hatched raided-nest eggs out on a heating pad. Eventually realized ducklings are disgusting and chicks rule. ;) Seriously though, I always wondered why the "chicken side" of BYC always seemed so "anti-duck" but not vice versa.. Now I get it. :gig

anyone near Savannah area want any orderington roos 8 weeks old and free all have pearl legs healthy and happy I spend a lot of time with my birds

I keep meaning to ask you what kind of bantams do you have? I have Java's and she just raised 5 chicks, one was a roo, good hen/roo ratio, wish I could get that from my bator
I'm from NW Georgia:)

Welcome
yeah me too, Some of the things I've seen in there just THIS year. The typical 'buying chicks during chick days so the kids can play with them'...........grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

"oh we bought some last year when they first got them, I let the kids take them out to play in the yard, and the next morning they were all dead, but TSC wouldn't give me my money back"

just makes you shake your head sometimes huh......

Next time I'm heading that way, I'm gonna let you know, we can rendezvous at the oyster shell, chick grit meal worm aisle.........

We should make it a lunch day, I'm right there too

jury duty. Seriously, I'm that nerd who really really wants to do it. However, this week is the worst week possible. I got dismissed from a case on Monday thinking that would be it. I was bummed. But now, I showed up Tuesday for a second round of picks. Didn't get called this time, they sent us home and said call back after 5 on Wednesday. I assumed it would be the end. Nope. Report back tomorrow at 8:30. I'm willing to bet money no criminal defense attorney would want a cop's wife on his jury. Even though I do not hold a biased a opinion, it's only natural for the general public to just assume it. Which I totally get. *end whining*

On another note:
@katsdar they loved the apricots. I just chopped up some mango, pears, and spinach to bring them. Not a great combo for a human but I'm pretty sure they're not gonna care! LOL
I don't know that sounded like a good salad add a little red onion and a finely chopped jalapeno,

I had a duck before the neighbor's kid killed it with his BB gun, but anyway that was years ago and she laid the most beautiful eggs and I would use them in baking and talk about making a cake rise, I do miss Plucky, she was so funny, she was a Peking duck a friend of mine bought her as a joke since I had just built my pond.

that makes me think, if the ducks think it can't keep up and survival of the fittest, wish you could catch it, wonder if you called the wildlife people if they would help.
