YO GEORGIANS! :)

Anyone near Columbus/Harris County area have Rhode Island Reds, I am looking for a roo between one and two months old to match the age of my pullets. My feed store only orders pullets so very small chance she will have one.

I've been gone for a couple of months...I just got so busy with taking care of things after my mom passed, my son's FAFSA paperwork, taxes, sheesh...The list goes on forever. Anyway it's good to be back as always.

That's so funny about the coop building because my hubby is constantly having to repair,change or add to ours. We waited for yrs to get chickens because he was active duty Army and he recently retired. My daughter n I were the ones who wanted them for eggs so every time we need his construction expertise he just rolls his eyes n goes to work. Lmao. Yet I know he'll enjoy the eggs once they start laying! :)
What would we do without our hubbies? I know I have been blessed by the beautiful potting shed he made me, then our first coop (gothic church coop), then he had to add on a parsonage, and now a whole new coop 12 x 16. We will build it in two phases and phase one is a 12 x 8. $$$$$$ Which it fell from trees!
We tore down an outside enclosed porch do we used that wavy plastic roofing for our coop. It's tinted so hopefully in the hot Ga summer it will help w the heat. So far it's been a godsend cuz here in Savannah we have gotten quite a bit of rain plus the large birds of prey can't get in. ;-)
We thought about that option too but we don't have any to tear down :( We do have some tin roofing that someone is going to give us and hopefully it will be enough. Love to hear rain on a tin roof.
Awwwww Albert is sooooo cute!
Albert is a mess! hahaha He has the most unique personality of any of our chickens. Thank you.
He has that adorable Phyllis Diller hair!
Yes he does. My husband immediately saw Albert Einstein, like so many people do when they have polish.
So here sits the Gwinnett County fairgrounds with nary a chicken around. Does any one know when a Poultry show will be there? I ask in hope as it is a w 10-15 minutes from my house lol.
There will be a show sometime this fall. They don't do shows usually in the spring because that is when the hens are laying and raising their chicks. At least that is what I was told. There will be a show in Dalton again on Nov 3rd. The Poultry Press newspaper has a list of all the show.
It's been awhile since I posted on this thread but I had to share our new babies!!!! 6 I got from tsc on Valentines day, and 5 I just bought last night from someone local, and I know they are RIR!

Little baby chicks are soooo sweet.

None yet...should be getting our day-olds in about three weeks! We're newbies ;)

well I got my chicks today all arrived dead except for one.Cackle is going to replace them but it won't be until the 18th of next month which really stinks but atleast one made it.

That's terrible.

Tip-toeing in to say we're Georgians, too :)

WE'RE SINGING YOUR TUNE BAGGERDAN2!

Hey! I'm a Georgian! I am actually new to raising chickens, we have a flock of 7 hens, just hatched my first chick (the others didn't make it) and am now trying to hatch 5 bantam eggs. Our poor little baby Wheezy will be an only chick

She had spraddle leg and I tried hobbling her (that was tough) but found a coffee cup she couldn't get out of and now she seems fine. Alone in the brooder but fine.

You lost the others. One of my silkies had spraddle leg and I did the band-aid between the legs and he is a big strapping boy now just struttin his stuff.

Is there any other Loganville folks out there? I know there are other chicken people near because I can hear a rooster every now and then across the pastures.

I live in Covington but I have a daughter and family that live down by Bay Creek. I know there is a lady off of Ozora (sp?) by a church on the corner and she had a lot of chickens, turkeys, fowl, peacocks, etc.
I'm in the Savannah area!

Glad to have you join us!

So we got some friends for our lonely Wheezy!

Awwww what cute chicks. Wheezy will be all snuggled in now with her siblings.

Hi y'all...........I'm home again...
frow.gif
.Please say you missed me........I went to hospital 3/4 for a routine bronchoscopy (somewhere, mid lung checking, I started coughing ( I was under anesthesia and apparently wouldn't stop)........The telescoping tube in my lungs was pushed against a wall and made a tear. The end run was a development of hole in my right lung midlung and it was deflating, ugh.... I had a chest tube put in within minutes of the Bronch. It was many days - crazy ones, until yesterday with lots of different treatments and efforts and sleepless times. I had over 15 lung xrays along all sorts of therapy. When they say take a deep breath and in the middle of one of your lungs there is a spacer plus a tube, a deep breath can make a grown farm woman cry like a baby. They were doing an important job and I learned what Mama meant when she said "NO Pain, No gain",. Yesterday, my doc said I'm putting you on oxygen. If it doesn't work, then upcoming week surgery. Although there is still a hole in my lung, I am so happy to be home. I came home this evening. I can lift no more than 2 to 3 pounds, no leaning, stretching pulling, exersion of anysort for about 4 to 6 weeks. I will see the doc again to make sure it is shrinking or back I go for surgery. Now I'm a farmer's wife and I actually made us some no thrill bean burritos with cheese as we missed lunch. Open a can of beans, slice cheese, two tortillas, and by the time grilled it up, I'm on the couch, down and out. It will be hard to sit on my hands during this time, but I'm so like superglad to be home....And I know many of you knew about this and were praying and thinking and helping us in so many ways. I will say my being there because a religious experience and I'm not being smart talking. Everytime anything at the hospital got too overwhelming, I would cover my eyes with a wash cloth (no darkened rooms allowed in this hospital) and turn on inspiration music channel on tv and just sink in to the words of the songs or think of times in my life where blessings had flowed to me and our farm. Although I'm itching right now to visit all the animals, I know I am not allowed too much walking or contact until after Wednesday. Have you ever had something just outside of your reach .....In your visition but you cannot go there. When we pulled in the farm, I could see many of our birds and the "bunny trail" where our bunnies are. I wanted to run and see them soooo badly. But I gotta be good, cause I do not want to be a hospital "frequent visitor". Well, now that I've made up for lost time...Y'all be careful of your lungs.....and your health. And have a blessed week!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nancy we are so glad you are home. There have been lots of prayers for you and we see how God has taken care of you. I know Jac is also glad you are home. Having been in a situation where a bronchial sickness led to pluricy and that led to phnuemonia, and all because I didn't rest and take care of myself, I am begging you not to lift a finger and rest sweetie.

Hi, Rita Jones from South Georgia almost on the Florida state line.

Rita way down south!

oh heehee fart egg=no yolk.. . .never heard that one. Now I feel silly! I read that amber stars lay big white eggs, but she is still pretty small. I guess we will see, do you think she will lay one tomorrow?? Oh and we don't know how old she is, at what age do they normally start laying? I have new chickies that I am raising for a friend and she only wants them once they are at laying age.

HAHAHA...Someone told me there were called misfires! I had one of my hens lay the teeniest tiniest first egg, I put it in a downed bird nest I had and used it for decoration.

~~~~~~~~~~~MEMORIAL~~~~~~~~~~~
The sweetest "special needs" chicken anywhere! Ten months ago today we were blessed with 4 free chicks. Three were silkies and one was this sweet d'uccle. As she started to get older her beak began crossing and hence she got her name, "Broke Beak". She was the "pet" chicken as she was allowed to come in the house daily and dine on her mash. She would fly up to the counter to make sure you were making it right, and sample it, as you were trying to make it. She would fly on your back, arm, anywhere she could as you carried the dish to put it down. She was the first one out of the coop squawking loudly and running as fast as her little legs could carry her to the back door. Today she lost the battle of her disability even though I was syringe feeding her. She will be so missed because she was so special. I wish I could of saved her...
Thanks for letting me share! She was a love.
My broody momma's. My silkie Cotton and her chick ( she had two but the other one unexpectedly died yesterday). Then you have my Black Cochin Bantam Beyoncé and her 6 and my little khaki Campbell Quackers. Tomorrow she should have seven when the last one gets done hatching.
