We have a large creek on our farm that is in major flood stage! It is not far from my chicken coop so I went to check on the chickens and guess what I found? Barred rock feathers littered the entire coop, and my barred rock hen was nowhere to be found.![]()
well heck I hate that! mine are all doing well, even after I took them away from mama, she was making me nuts digging and scratching and kicking all kinds of stuff in the food and water. And it didn't appear they were eating much of the feed. Of course I don't blame them the way she kept it so filthy. So I bought a 140 gallon stock tank, built a lid for it, moved their water bottles and feeder to it, with the heat lamp and put them in there. She clucked around and made those mama calling chicks noises for a little while, but by dark, she was roosting with the others and back to a normal life today.Feeling sad.
It has been a LONG week here, very little computer play time.
I've been loving my chicks from PapaChaz, but today one of my little splash Ameraucanas is not doing well.
Just sitting, not eating or drinking. The others are making happy chickie noises.
I gave her a drop of Poultry Nutradrench, which is a vitamin mineral suplement. I've used Nutra Drench before of the goat variety.
It would get a little goat who looked about dead up and running.
No luck with the little splash though.
I put it on her tongue, she swallowed, but then started gasping. Now she is over on her side.
edit: Lost her.![]()
when you hatch some of these, I must know! Jill fell in love with them when we came to pick up the chicks and wants a few

I'll put them back in the divided section when they feather out in a few weeks, and we'll see how it goes then....
