Don't forget that most chickens slow down or stop laying eggs altogether when the daylight hours get shorter than 14 hours. Right now we are getting just a tad over 12 hours. A lot of people will put a small light in their coop on a timer that is set to come on around 4am, so that they will have 14 hours of light. Some people opt to let their chickens take a break and rest during this time of year.

Okay. I am going to give my girls a chance to rest....my poor SLP and EE hens are going through a hard molt. I have never seen one this bad. Lol!!!
I just talked to the guy and he said they had not started laying yet, and that they should be close. What size light or type light do you use?
I think you quoted the wrong person!!!I don't use a light.
I was just quoting off of the conversation. It's hard to tell how the quote looks on my phone. I apologize for any confusion. I thought it would quote Flower as well from your post
Is the building in the picture the one you are talking about with sliding doors and separate sections? We are wanting to do something like that too. Where can you get a pre-made building with sections?Goldie1234,
Congrats on the first eggs!
My younger chicks (4 Am. from Papachaz, 2 EE, 13 Buff Orps and 3 Dominiques) are doing great, and soon will have a building to move their brooder into, and get it out of the living room.
My new building SHOULD be delivered next week. 12' x 20', and already set up for birds. I just have to add some larger perches and a few nest boxes.
This will let me separate breeds, since it is in several sections, with sliding doors.
