Wanted to share my new upcycled nest boxes.
Since we separated the RIR from the rest of the flock for hatching eggs, I needed nest boxes, but am broke this month.
The RIR kept the original boxes, and I moved the comets and the assorted roosters and younger pullets (not yet laying)
These are the scoopable cat litter buckets. A friend brought me 24, and I use them for feed, cat food, and now nest boxes.
We put 2 1"x2" strips across the back, where there are notches in the bottom of the box. Then used a block of wood on the inside, screw went thru the block, then the bottom, then into the 1x2. The wood block is to keep the screws from pulling through.

I just thought, the search I did was on hatching eggs within 50 miles of me. I had searched a few days on all hatching eggs and never saw these. Makes me wonder what else I have missed.

Thanks so much. If all do hatch I will be selling quick! HAHA! I have no more room and shouldn't have been on there bidding on hatching eggs in the first place.

Maybe some of the ones I have will sell in time to make room for these.

I looked a while back and probably got side tracked by seeing something else. HA! Thanks for that info! I have one chicken that lays daily and that is my mixed bantam that lays a small large breed egg. Her mother is a BCM and her father was a Bantam RIR (We really didn't think mating was possible.) She looks like a bantam BCM and I have even been asked if she was a Bantam BCM. I don't think there even is such a breed but she is a great egg layer. She lays a pink egg everyday. She does have an attitude problem and rules her coop with an iron beak and she even rules over the roosters and the standard breed chickens. I have never seen anything like it. They all get out of her way. She lets my Speckled Sussex Rooster breed her but none of the other rooster, she will attack them if they try. She has a beautiful copper neck but you can only see it in the sun. She does not allow pics so this one was taken with a zoom. LOL She has the attitude of a broody but all the time and she was just hatched in July.

My FCBM hens have always been the top birds in my pen. And yes, over the roosters too.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I was working on chicken coops most of the day and just now saw this. Gabapentin is the generic for  Neurontin. I can say it works pretty good. Doesn't stop the pain but does dull it. I was able to get some work done on chicken coops after spending 4 days on the couch. A few months ago I woke up one morning and my hands were messed up and I couldn't bend my thumb or pointer finger and it was worse on my left hand compared to my right. They would finally bend but had a clicking noise. The doctors just gave me 4 medications. I swear they didn't even touch my hands and barely listened to what the problem was. I'm sitting on the table with 4 prescriptions and thinking what just happened? I was scared of going to the chiropractor because it kills me to bend my leg at all and I know he will make it bend. HAHA!

Hilarious but understandable on the plastic nature, I just turned 40 and may need to check on some stuff myself.

Yup. 42 here. I told my husband after my ankle surgery that I was going to try to make it one full year before I end up in the ER again & the next time I have surgery, I'm getttin' boobs. Lol
No boobs yet, but I did manage 18 months between ER trips. Obviously unrelated to the arms, but we'll see what the orthopedist says on Wednesday. I'm so uncomfortable and want the pain to go away so bad that, if I wasn't married to the po-po, I would drive to the city and get my hands on whatever Pills I could find as long as it makes it go away. I hope she listens to me this time. And without judgement. Got too much stuff to do to be this uncomfortable.

Well, I'm in Cartersville, but I have eggs GAM just hatched some, and the ones I candled before lockdown were 94 percent fertile

That's a good percentage! I contacted someone just yesterday who's going to sell me a few, but if it works out I may be looking for more. What kinds do you have?

The ones I have now are mixed, but my Rhode Island Reds were just separated yesterday. My other hens aren't QUITE ready yet. The Lavender Orps are getting close, and one Speckled Sussex may be laying, but the others are still too young.

Oooh, how much are you going to ask for the lavender orpington eggs? Are they going to be pure or mixed?

Once they are laying reliably I will separate them out too. We have some more pens to set up, they just need one side added.
As far as price, I really don't know. I will say these have a fair amount of gold leakage on the hens. I really need to breed them with a black roo, then with the lavender the following generation.

But they look real nice til about 5 months when adult feathers finish coming in. Of course, some of it could be sun bleaching too, but I'm thinking leakage.
