YO GEORGIANS! :)

That is super scary! I'm guessing that that to have more than that you will need a license or permit of some sort.
I'm in Bartow, and with 10+ acres specifically so I can have livestock and poultry. I would be at any and all meetings where this is being discussed.

It is scary...! I do plan to be at the public hearings if they actually have any...GC has a bad habit of just doing what they want to and getting away with it. They burn taxpayers money like it grows on trees. I spoke with someone last night who told me they thought the new regs were for folks with less than 5 acres...that actually you are currently supposed to have 5 acres or more to have chickens. I didn't know that...I have 10+ so not a problem for me but can you imagine living out in the county on a little less than 5 acres and cannot have ANY chickens. If the new regs are supposed to be for that group of folks who have less than 5 acres it's still a pretty tight hold on people who want to have chickens...and the no selling of eggs, chicks, etc is preposterous...!!!!!

I worked in Marketing for Shaw Commercial in Calhoun for years. I also finished my first degree at the college there in Criminal Justice. I heard of regulations coming in hopes to stop the (Game) fighting chicken industry in Calhoun and all of Gordon county. What they don't understand is all chickens in the area aren't for fighting. Also, if these people are breaking the law by fighting chickens, chances are, new rules and regulations will make no difference to them. They will just try harder to not get caught. It has taken a while because they were talking about these new rules/laws in 2013 and I have already finished my bachelors degree at Shorter. Maybe they will never pass the law since it hasn't passed since 2013.
The paper said they had been working on it for a while and the commissioners wanted to go forward with it and public hearings would be scheduled...if they DO have them they will probably be weekday at 10 AM or 3 PM so not many folks will be able to attend. :(

we do have a few peeps who are in the Augusta area that will probably chime in! Welcome aboard, we don't mind if you're not quite in GA (now or after your move) jump on in!

I'm in guyton, effingham county Ga, on SC. border

Hiya! We'll be starting the move in April but it will take a while since I'm coming clear from Ohio. I raise chickens, turkeys, geese, peafowl, coturnix quail & goats. Looking to add guineas after the move to help with pest control. The kids want a pony & I'm planning on raising out a hog & a beef to go in the freezer with my chicken & turkey.

Hey I have a medical question and maybe someone has some advice or can supply some info. One of the chickens I rescued has no feather and is red, raw and when Clean the poop off the area bleeds a little and of course also brown watery poop comes out. Have her isolated and she is eating and drinking well, have been given her 1 teaspoon/ quart of water -Oxytetracycline for the past four days. Have also given her 0.25 Oz mixed in a gallon of water of Nutria-Drench in her water for @ 6 days (Approx.. total of 2 quarts of water with this mix daily) all fresh daily. When I clean the area, have used preparation H and also sprayed the area with Rooster Booster Poultry Wound Spray. Does not appear that it is prolapse as nothing protruding out so nothing to push in. Anyone with help. Weather I am doing good or bad or if something more I can do and how long before can see improvement. Appreciate some input and help and will greatly appreciated. Thanks

for comparison, Bartow Co. requires 2 acres. So did Fairfax Co, VA, just 20 miles from Washington, DC

I've been searching through Polk County, I don't see ANY listings in the ordinances for chickens at all. I know they're restricted inside the city of Aragon, but no idea about Rockmart, Cedartown or any of the other 'towns' here

The above is a 110 gallon stock tank from TSC. It's a tuff stuff brand and we have about a dozen of the 40 gallon size around the place and use them for all kinds of things including brooders for up to 10-12 chicks. You can wash them with bleach and soapy water to clean and sterilize. They are thick and black and hold the heat from the heat lamp and work very well as a brooder. I have 25 ISA brown pullets coming in a few weeks and looking at this 110 gallon size but hate to pay the price of $65. What do you use as a brooder that is cheap and can be sterilized...?

I bought one of those and use it for a brooder also. Although, I'm going to tear out the brooder/quarantine cage I built in my coop and make some changes. After trying it with the last set of babies, it just wasn't working the way I intended. I'm going to swap ends with it and make it accessible through the big door on the side/end of my coop. Will be much easier to clean and deal with chicks when I need to
