YO GEORGIANS! :)

Katsdar,
I'm getting the eggs from Wayne Chambley. He lives in Zebulon.
I've seen pics of his birds, and so I'm going to try :)

Now if my darn black AMs from CarCar would just stop pouting!
LOL, big pretty coop, huge run, nice roosters, and they just won't lay for me!

Sad the Panthers didn't win. Sad Cam is being a sore loser. Thought the commercials were idiotic. But, today DH and I are taking off and running errands all over. That means eating breakfast and lunch out, going to the Barter Club cake shop (yummy!) and the Barter Club main store! It's like shopping with fake money! Love it!

DH just installed a new pump at the coop that won't freeze! Yes! Getting more eggs now that I've wormed my chickens. Chick weeks start this week. Love to just go look at them!

Only one more week til chicks... One way or another! Still got 10 eggs in the incubator, though I think I'm going to pull 2 of them. And then the shipped chicks will come a few days later.... Time to buy chick feed and set up the brooders! So excited!

I think it's a breed thing with the AMs. I've had them in the past and don't remember a complete stop of eggs from Thanksgiving to Feb, but that's what mine have done this time. I started out getting one blue egg every other day, then I got one blue egg 2 days in a row, then yesterday I got 2 blue eggs from the 4 I have out there. One of them is the splash pullet just hatched last sept, the other three are now a few weeks shy of a year old.

After getting 2 yesterday, I now think that instead of 1 of them laying two days in a row, they just alternated. Maybe the 3rd one is laying too, and they just alternate, LOL I do know that from the end of june to thanksgiving, after they started laying there was never a day I got 4 blue eggs. I thought one of them wasn't laying yet, but now I just think they alternate days.

on another note, my incubator:

I brought it in saturday and plugged it all in, asked some questions here, read through the answers. Here's what I've found so far ---

saturday, I played with the temp adjustment until I found the spot it would hold 100*. Both vent caps in and the humidity stayed up around the 70% mark. This is using the thermometer and hygrometer I bought in the reptile section of petco the other day. There was no water in it, so there was no reason (I thought) the humidity should be so high. I had left it sitting outside n the side porch a few days last week, and apparently the day it rained so hard, some rain had seeped into it. I took it to the sink and let it sit upside down while we were at church.

Yesterday afternoon, I plugged it in, still with no water put in it, and when we got home from church last night, I checked it. plugs in, 100*, humidity was around 15%. So, I put a little water in the bottom well, took out the vent caps and let it run all night. This morning when I got up, I found it between 40-45%, 100* and sitting there humming along. The egg trays have moved so I know the turner is working.

Looks like I'm ready to put some eggs in tomorrow for sure! What eggs I get today and tomorrow will definitely go in, at the moment, I have 7 AM eggs, I want to put 14 total in since each row hold 7, and we'll see how it goes! I'm excited :)
