Don't freak yourself out but just try to be aware of the length of time they are out of the bator at any time. Sure, mom gets off the nest and eats and so forth but even mom locks down pretty tight near the end.

I'm a stones throw from the strawberry fields. I know there are other chickens in the area because I can hear the odd rooster crow in the distance.

I collected eggs this week and built an incubator. I tested it for 48 hours and the temp span is 99.8° to 100.4°. I bought a 1588 Genesis Hovabator Incubator in case I have a problem I'll have a backup. The one I built has a low and high alarm. I built this with things I had around my shop except the control relay. It will hold 2 egg turners.
I loaded in 37 Buff Orpington eggs today that were collected the past five days. This will be my first try to hatch eggs so wish me luck!

@Flowerbh 411 on the chicks from Kevin in Summerville, he has eggs hatching every Friday, they are straight run and this Friday he has BCM, Welsummers, Lavendar Americanas hatching, if only hens are wanted then later on he will grow some out with a guarantee of a hen if it turns out to be a roo he will swap, but it will cost more how much don't know, now if you want to tell me how to sex day old chicks then I will do my best. I told him I will call Saturday to check hatch and then come out to pick up chicks.

Wish I were closer I wanted to add to Welsummers this spring. I think I used to go past the Armauchee school when I went up to Summerville to visit with family. It's been a long time as they have all gone for years.

Not sure, I made it last year and loved window shopping. It always amazes me at the variety of size, color and breeds.

The local feed stores love us, we by red for the dogs and white for the chickens. I stopped buying any from my Grayson TSC as it's kept outside and is always wet to some degree or another.
