YO GEORGIANS! :)

I've been using those all winter. Plugged them into a thermocube and insulated the buckets also. As long as you keep a couple inches of water above the heater it should be good.

I just insulated the bucket, put low wattage heat tape on the line, insulated the entire pipe and have it plugged into a thermal cube, if bucket becomes a problem will use a low wattage submersible heater, placed inside a glass mason jar inside bucket. That way I know the heater will never be out of water and cause problems.

Anyone want to chip in some suggestions? I picked up a Welsummer, a BC Marans, and a Splash OE today to add to our 7 beige egg layers, 1 (once in a) blue (moon) egg layer, 1 white duck egg and 1 turkey egg. I am trying to get a more colorful basket this year. So this makes 8 beige, 1 blue, 1 white, 1 olive, and 2 dark brown. What can i add to get bright blue and are their any pink colors out there or have i pretty much got it covered at this point?

I think sometimes EE will lay pinkish eggs, but those are always hit-or-miss as far as egg colors. Maybe Sussex?

Update: Now been five weeks since I rescued the two abused and neglected hens. The one has a inflamed vent, with scabs, minor bleeding. Have had them separated from the rest of the flock and have tried various approaches and research to get her healed and cured. ACV Yogurt Wheat Germ, Applesauce and more. Last week took her decided to take her to the vet, and was given some oral antibiotics to give her every 24 hours as well as cleaning and bathing the area every day and using wound spray. So now hoping to seem some improvement, but so far very little change so now and not sure what action or what to try next. Maybe need more time, will see.

I've got someone hatching Isbars, and Cream Legbars this week sometime. I may just end up with lots of blues and browns at this point. Everything i have found as far as "pink" goes all depends on the lighting.

For those who have a Tractor Supply near by, go check out the Chick Days event once your store has it set up. We've already got in water cups that thread into a pvc waterer system, we've got vetericyn specifically for chicken wounds, we've got small bags of organic scratch, nesting box woven mat's, and TONS of new interesting chicken products. I've already bought the waterer cups and installed them today. These chick days skus keep getting better each year.

To bad the Griffin TSC is not as good as the McDonough TSC. Griffin has the worst management and can't or won't keep very much if anything for poultry in stock. I don't expect that they will stock cups or mats or any new interesting products.

CliffB : understand that TSC is going to be stocking @ 45 stores with Big Ole Bird Probiotics for chickens to see if their is good sales and good to stock. Will the McDonough TSC be getting any of this product in the store ?

Oh you stop it....they have to. It's not optional. The management part i can't address but for what it's worth the Griffin Store Manager is who hired me when i was 18-19 at Home Depot.
