YO GEORGIANS! :)

For those who have a Tractor Supply near by, go check out the Chick Days event once your store has it set up. We've already got in water cups that thread into a pvc waterer system, we've got vetericyn specifically for chicken wounds, we've got small bags of organic scratch, nesting box woven mat's, and TONS of new interesting chicken products. I've already bought the waterer cups and installed them today. These chick days skus keep getting better each year.

I can't wait!

Cartersville isn't expecting them til maybe Wednesday or Thursday.
No mail running today, so chicks won't be shipped til tomorrow at the earliest.

I can understand that.

I love my TSC. Manager is nice. And Laura is my favorite employee.

I had missed setting for Valentines Day by a day. Put my chicks in a day late, so today is hatch day.
LOL, I hadn't heard any cheeping, but that must have been because of the brooder of chicks already in the living room drowning out their noise.

Just looked, and 4 pipped, 1 zipped. Nothing so far from my silkie eggs from a friend.
I'm going to pick some up from him this week, straight out of the nestboxes.

Really hoping for most of the RIR to hatch out, this is only my second hatcch, and on day 18 about 5 hours after taking out the turner my temp had spiked to 105 after always staying right at 99-100.

And can't wait for the group order, I really want to get my ROTR assorted pullets to raise with these little guys.
We've almost got the new big brooder ready for the older 25, and will be expanding the grow out pen a LOT.

OK so today marks the beginning of day 22... And still only the 2 farmyard mixes have hatched. And tonight will make a full 2 days since they hatched. Last successful hatch I had everything was out that was coming out in 24-48 hours from the first pip. I set all the eggs at the same time, so it wasn't a staggered hatch... I'm not hopeful for my shipped eggs at this point... :(

Does anyone have any blue egg layers less than a week old or hatching this week or next?

i just put mine in last tuesday, so we're a ways away yet, sorry!

is it just me, or do I really read more bad hatch reports on shipped eggs than good?

I don't think it's just you, this is my second batch of shipped eggs I've ever done so it's not a great sampling, but neither hatch has gone well for me. This one was shipped perfectly, but I think they were stored a long time without being turned. Most of the embryos developed really close to the shell on one side or the other when I candled them, and the one I eggtopsied was actually adhered to the shell. I'll be eggtopsy-ing the rest in a few days if they don't hatch.

The only times I've had bad luck with shipped eggs, was back when it was my incubator's fault. Nowadays I'm good unless the eggs just aren't fertile, as with the Cochin eggs I still hate to even think about.

SCRATCH THAT I might be pulling the plug like... Now. I just noticed the incubator is starting to stink. At the very least finding the culprit and getting it out asap!

I tried shipped eggs once and only had 1 chick hatch, but then I do think it was partly me, but the eggs were really shook up,

AWWWW I just realized no mail will run today, so I guess that means no chicks at the TSC in rome yet, oh well I get to keep my money a little longer

What's your incubation technique? I can't seem to keep shipped eggs going at all. I saw where someone used surgical gloves when touching all her eggs because the oils in your hands are harmful. Is that true? I touch all my eggs and my first hatch (those four eggs I got from GAM at the swap last year) was 100%.
