YO GEORGIANS! :)

Flower, everybody needs/deserves that! Just one day.. You guys should make it a point to do just that one day soon before it's too hot to enjoy outside! It can surely be done to free up JUST one day! Could you guys maybe hire some help for the one day, or a couple afternoons to make up for it?

We have been hiring a $10/hour guy to help, but DH has been having him help on the coop. We brought in 2 trucks of sand for the playground (their bathtub area) and he does stuff like that. But, on 25 acres of land, there is always downed trees, firewood to split, roads to grade, etc. I help with it all. I think when we were younger, we were just doing all these thing faster, hahaha, and now it is all backing up on us because we are slowing down. I guess we are blessed that we can still do it at all, even if we are a tad slower in the doing of it!

See, y'all do 25 acres like my husband would try to. I want land like we had when I was little- 25 wooded AC- but he insists it'd be "work". My family didn't keep it up like that. Unless a tree fell near the house, it laid where it fell. And there were no roads through it, just trails where my horse and I wore the leaves out. The land was just for privacy. Keeping it up IS too much like work! :p But I completely understand what you're saying.

I want a splash BLRW so bad. Where did you get your BLRW eggs?

A breeder in VA. I got some from her last Summer and my hen is black laced but her father was a blue laced. She has good lacing so I wanted more from her. I sent her pics of these 2 and she said the one in the pic shows signs of blue lacing. I got different eggs from a different mother for sure so actually hope its a rooster, which I would never usually say. Here is the hen from last summer.

Nice, ericinga! I locked down my eBay Cochins and some barred rock last night. These are the Cochins where the Lav/black split eggs did fairly well (and still look good!), but only two silver laced were fertile. Now only one silver laced looks like it actually grew appropriately but I left the other in just bc it is at least moving. But I think it's severely under grown.

Got to candle the replacement silver laced eggs for that first time and it looks like 5 or 6 or of 12 will grow. So still not good at all but I only paid for shipping so oh well.

My eggs in this hatch looked crazy when I candled them. One had an air sac that covered half of the egg. I really only thought maybe 2 would hatch. It took some time but I am amazed to have so many hatch. I tossed one that I thought would never hatch. I am regretting that. From now on, I will be putting them all in to hatch unless clear. I wish I had taken pics of the eggs while candling. All would be amazed I had so many hatch.

It has to be shipping for the Silver Laced or the people have too many hens per rooster. I have never ever had fertility issues with any bantam cochins. I bet you could put Yoda with those barred hens and you would have fertile eggs.

Hmm that makes me optimistic. I took out an egg last hatch for the same reason.

And- I just don't know. I would think if an egg was fertile to start, you would at LEAST get some sort of blood ring or spot. But it's a bit early to judge them anyway, so hopefully my guess is on the low side. But the ones looking good are for sure good.

This is what I woke up to on my camera yesterday. Total of 4 or 5 came over the fence. I set me trap last night and caught one big male. I am so glad I used hardware cloth. Those things can rip the guts out of all the chickens and can get through chicken wire. We lost about 20 several years ago when a few made it through the chicken wire one night.

Excuse the date and time. I never set it.

@GAMarans-
You were so right about the snap peas being so pretty when they bloom! I didn't have success the first time I planted them years ago. Decided to try again, and I remember telling you I didn't think they'd do anything. Well, I was wrong and now I'm picking a small handfull each day & have a few more plants that are getting ready to produce more in the coming weeks. How do you store them when they're fresh? I just realized, I have no idea where to put them until I can cook them! LOL
i think I've only ever bought them frozen!
