YO GEORGIANS! :)

I may have to sell my muscovies. They multiply like rabbits. I came home to more babies yesterday and I wasn't even prepared. Had to go buy chick starter.

Eat those suckers. I've read that muscovies taste more like sirloin than regular duck. Don't know if that's true or not. :)

We're still working on our deer meat from last season. We've got to finish it up before fall hits. My dad is mad because we put two chickens in the freezer two months ago and haven't gotten to them yet. I keep telling him we have to wait until they hit rotation. Lol.

I just started fermenting food to try and save on the food bill. Now that all these big laying hens I have been trying to sell are grown and laying and my husbands duck collection has grown... they're eating us out of house and home. Lol. I have all these little roos running around that may end up in the freezer. I thought I could at least get a few bucks for them. Also this is the worst month of the year every year at our business because of back to school. We literally shut down for 9 days at the end of last summer and it didn't cause us to lose enough money to worry about. I know why. Buying my kids school supplies... makes me feel like she's being trained to be a janitor. I spend more money on paper towels, disinfectant spray and wipes and kleenex than I do her actual pencils and paper and things she needs to do school work. Would have been nice to be able to sell these and have a few extra bucks laying around.

Try Craigslist. I had tons of people call me looking for laying hens. All I had to sell was older hens and chicks.

Muscovies are challenging Pekins at the top of the duck meat market. I prefer the Muscovies ... they aren't as messy as Pekins. And they get bigger.

Bad thing is we don't have a local Craigslist page here. So I have to post in towns more than an hour away. Few are willing to drive to me to pick them up. My husband and I run a business. It's hard for us to ever get out of town so I can't deliver them. That's why I post on our local livestock Facebook groups.

Well was able to downsize some, able to rehome my light Brahma and my two RIR. Next will be the Nankin Chicks, they are going on 8 weeks old so in a couple of week will need to find a home for them.

I'm trying to just stick to silkies and EEs. I have an Ameraucana roo in a pen now with GLWs, an EE, and just for fun my silkie/laying hen mix. My EE roo on the yard has an EE hen, a buff orpington, GLWs, and turkens. I have my cochin group too. I was going to sell my barred cochin bantams but now I have a frizzle roo for them. I'm just keeping for my own enjoyment now and I've found that is breeding funny looking things that lay blue and green eggs. With the laying hens... we end up with too many eggs for us and everyone else to eat. Sometimes this summer I would just let our egg eating dog have them we had so many. At least the silkie eggs are little so we have to use more of them.

Well, you are lucky. My hens are just not laying.....even the newbies! So annoying! I sell my eggs at the Farmers Market to get $$ for their feed, and I'm only getting like 6-8 eggs a day! And, there are about 30+ hens out there who are old enough to lay!
