YO GEORGIANS! :)

That's the hope.  We had another female that stayed with him until something sadly took her right off of her nest.

I am currently working on crossing them with Mallards to get a high production, colored egg layer.

Here is the efowl page on them ... http://www.efowl.com/Khaki_Campbell_Hatching_Eggs_p/1206.htm

Good luck! Hopefully they both sick around for you. What kind of egg colors would that produce? I have no experience with ducks, so I thought they all laid white eggs! Or did you mean the color of the ducks?

Ducks offer almost as much color variety as chickens. Mallards lay a blue to blue/green egg.

I have been back and forth in ducks! I really want them but don't want to add a coop!
If/when you do decide to get ducks be sure to pay attention to what kind you get for a pen/coop. Some of them are MUCH messier than others.

Neat! So basically you'd be trying to make a SBEL duck? Are the egg colors controlled by the same/similar genes as in chickens?
I'm an informal mad scientist ... I have no clue of the actual gene work, I just hatch eggs.

HAH me too! Except I do try to study the genes. Almost every chick we brought in this year was either crested or feather footed in hopes of eventually getting more chicks like one I got from Flower last year that has both. Trying to get colored eggs in there too, because why not! As long as I'm working on a genetic project might as well shoot for the moon, right? ;)

When are/did you hatch your first batch of crosses or do you know yet if it's working? We probably won't be hatching ours until this fall, but I just had a hen go broody and I'm debating just letting her hatch them for me.

I currently have 2 near-adult female crosses ... just a waiting game now for the eggs.

Oh that's exciting!! I have one more pullet I'm waiting on to lay that we don't know what she'll lay and I'm anxiously checking the nest box every day! We had our first unknown pullet start laying last week, and suspected she might be a SBEL and it looks like she is! Beautiful small blue eggs already! No teensy pullet eggs, they're already almost to medium size! Everyone else we know what they should be laying, but I have one frizzle that hatched out of a blue green egg, but her dad is a known brown egg breed, so 50/50 if she'll be a green egg layer or not! Waiting is the hardest part, isn't it? :D

There was guy in Rockmart selling SBEL hatching eggs (and New Hampshires) and I'll can't find him again. His info on my phone is gone (after 2 phone switches) and I can't find any trace of him on FB anymore.
