My daughter wants to start raising some chickens she can show. She is raising a baby silkie right now, spoiling it really, it watches TV with her in our bed, but I know this bird won't be show quality and she's too young right now to show anyway. Just wondering if anyone here has shown birds and what breed would be the best bet for us to keep an eye out for here in Georgia. Other than silkies. So many people have silkies I feel her birds would have a lot more competition if she goes with silkies.
 
Anyone interested in some Valbazene for worming? My girls have round worms, so i'm going to worm the flock. I did a bunch of research on here and landed on Valbazene being the best option, but a half liter was the smallest cost-effective size I could find so I have way more than I'll ever need (dosing is .5ml per bird). I paid ~$50 delivered -so if you need any and want to come by (mableton) I'll sell it for $10 per 100ml.

I work at a truck stop and this cooler was returned. We got credit for it so it was about to be thrown away. but I thought someone on here might want it. Maybe turn it into a brooder or incubator? 12 volt plug in and doesn't have a lid.
 
So allll summer the new pullets have been slacking off, and in the last week four of them have started laying!

All different colors too! Got a green egg from the frizzle I hatched from Flowers' egg, a white from the polish, a tan from the wyandote, and FINALLY get an egg from one of the Wellsummers!

Sad news. My dog dug a hole under the door of my chicken run big enough for one of the chicks to escape and then he killed it. :(

He mostly ignored the chickens until the chicks were in there, and then only showed passing interest. I'm not sure what changed, but since I've now lost one of my favorite chicks, it's going to get addressed NOW.

What training methods have y'all used with dogs to make them chicken safe? I know it can be done, it might be difficult, but it can be done. Already looking over a forum post on training, but I'd love to hear some more opinions too.
