YO GEORGIANS! :)

Thanks y'all. Not exactly how I planned on ending my weekend but it could have been worse. Nothing broke in the ankle joint. Not sure how bad but he did mention ligament damage in addition to the brake.

Well I just about finished the transition brooder (juvi brooder). I still need to add a handle to the top door, apply some cosmetic trim, and paint it, but I got the bulk of it done, so I'm happy about that. The rain and unseasonably cold weather put me about a week behind, but that's life. Anyway, in case anyone is interested, here are a few picts:

This is a front view with the top door propped open. I used planks from wooden pallets for the back wall.

This angle shows the side door opened. I used an old storm-door handle for a handle.

Here is a wide-angle shot. The wife was blocking the glare from the sun, so a part her hand is in the upper-left corner of the photo.

This a a view of the other side. As I said, I still need to add trim and paint it, but at least it's functional now...lol

I know I'm late to this conversation, but this bugs me, them telling folks different things. The memo I read said nothing about hatching eggs and it depends who you talk to as to what information you get. Typical government agencies. AI is not spread from egg to chick. I am suspicious of anything to do with the state vet or the GA Ag dept. Why are they telling people this when AI doesn't pass through the egg? Well, IMO, they are anti-backyard flock anyway and will seize any opportunity to stop what we do. I don't trust anyone in our state vet's office, not since Dr. Bohannan left.

I am going to continue to sell hatching eggs, though I don't mail them anymore. I don't go to swaps/auctions/flea market events to do with poultry anyway, would never buy from any of those. My birds are all hatched here.

feathersaloft, that's terrible. I know of an NPIP breeder who sold an ILT-postive rooster to another NPIP breeder. She had to know he was a carrier because he either had it and survived or he was vaccinated with the live vaccine.  You NEVER use that for ILT unless it's in your flocks. I do not trust NPIP, useless. I won't ever do it.

I've also heard NPIP testing is a joke. They come test a few birds once a year. They could be infected the next week and still be considered safe for a year.

What about that at the bottom of the letter about how if you cannot pen your birds in an enclosed space to contact them and let them know? Why? Are they going to come catch them for me? Doubt it. Probably come catch them and take them off with them. I can't catch my guineas. Anyway this is being spread by wild birds. Are they catching all the wild birds and penning them up too? Doubt it. If it gets brought into my yard and my birds die... that's the least of their problems. The wild birds that come in my yard looking for scraps and chicken food are what they will need to worry about. If my birds start dropping, I'll call. Not while they are healthy. I'm just sad about the sales being stopped. I bought 3 oegb chicks... as of right now they all look like hens. I won't need them without a roo, so I was planning on selling them and maybe looking for an adult trio. Just my luck. I still have 3 barred cochin bantam hens and no rooster because out of the three straight run I bought... all girls. I do most of my buying and selling and trading during this time of year. I was about to sell my partridge silkie breeding group, my cochin bantam hens, and some of my other birds that I've been keeping but not planning on breeding. Now? I guess I'm hanging onto them until the craziness dies down.
