When state vets voice their opinion that they don't think "normal" people should keep chicken flocks, that is very telling. My friend in KY has been round and round with the state vet who is a member of her local swap group on Facebook that has an actual physical swap attached to it.

I really think it's more pressure from the big chicken, and egg, producing companies to eliminate us. I mean I know the few dozen eggs I sell a week isn't competition for them, until you add yours, and everyone else's. Yeah, I have no doubt they'd like to put us out of 'business' so to speak. So the 'elected' or 'appointed by elected' officials, are going to do whatever they have to do to try to 'depopulate' us right out of having chickens. And I agree, they really don't care about heritage or special breeds, they only care about Ben, Andrew and Ulysses visiting them as often as possible

I can agree with all that. Whatever they do, we have to just be sure we keep our birds healthy, don't give them an excuse. And that doesn't mean become NPIP, either. I certainly have no plans to become part of a government monitoring program, especially since my birds are not anyone's food chain except my own.

Was wondering why the tinfoil hats most what has been said was about the gov not caring for the backyard farmer/ chicken owner witch is true gong don't get kickbacks from small chicken raisers but do from large scale operations they have a say as to what happens to us and they would rather we not have any chickens and be forced to but chickens and eggs from us not a conspiracy just the plain truth

I totally concur.

I told my wife the other day, I guess it was a good thing I didn't bother ordering that new incubator over the winter....
