YO GEORGIANS! :)

So, has anyone heard of the mini reality tv series, Coop Dreams? Well, they are coming to our house at the end of April to film an episode for their show! We sent them a photo of our coop and they wanted to come and see it! It will be fun, but they will probably have to edit a lot if my DH is in it!!! LOL! All those who know my DH will understand what I'm talking about! He is the one that just posted the Poultry Stop (Thanks Feathersaloft!) He thinks we all have chickenitis and we all need to be cured! LOL.. I keep telling him none of us want to be cured! Anyway, thought I would post a picture of our coop for you newbies. Anyone want to come and help me scrape the poop out before they come to film it! hahahhahahahh!!!

I wish my house looked that good lol

Ok people from Georgia I have had a wierd experiance this evening from putting some older chicks in with the adult birds and I'm totally not sure what they were doing but I'll say something the two brother Roos are odd!! Usually you have problems introducing younger birds to the flock especally with Roos but I'm totally freaked out now!! My one cochin n Roo had to be removed he went after the little ones with a vengeance but to my suprise the two brothers were actually protecting them!! Well you know that the Cochin was removed from the coop and put in time out but then it got time to settle in for the night of course I had 5 crying birds. That was suspected so we went to put them in the coop well that upset the rooster and he was trying to get them inside the coop by clicking funny when we went in to put them inside the coop one older hen and the Roo Mutt came out And stood up to Jackie because she had a crying chick in her hand we got all the chicks in the coop in went the hen and Mutt stood at the door a bit then entered. He started that cooing almost like a hen and actually quieted down the startled chicks and sat down at the door as he has always done guarding the coop! I have never herd of a Roo going so far as accepting chicks that way before !! Is this normal?? I couldn't find a better Roo if he is that way if you make any noise around the coop at night he is the first one out to investigate and his brother watches the door! They had actually protected the chicks today against the hens running them around!!

That is amazing! What channel does Coop Dreams come on? I haven't heard of it.

Why wouldn't a roo want more 'chicks'?! And why would hens want to share their guy with others? That's my version of why the males are more accepting of newbies! Lol!

How old are the little ones you are trying to put in there?

Not sure for your area. May have to do a search. They also have a show called Coops for Troops. People can nominate a veteran to receive a whole coop set-up. The show will come in and do a feature story on the veterans military history and then a team comes in and builds a coop (the kit kind), gives him chickens, bedding, treats, medications, feed and everything else they will need to raise chickens! They are awarding someone in lower Tennessee which is why they decided to go ahead and come here.
