You can eat turkens. I'm pretty sure they're considered dual purpose. A lady I bought some from a while back always butchered her extras and said they were tasty.

Turkens grow waay too slowly and don't put on a lot of meat compared to Cornish Xs. The commercial meat-bird market is an entirely different game.

Just means you have to put a few in the pot, rather than the one. We don't eat ours, not unless one turns mean and that's extremely rare. I think we've only eaten one rooster over all these years. After raising chickens and seeing that they are more intelligent, dignified and complex than most people give them credit for, I am less and less inclined to eat them, but that's just me. I still buy the commercial CornishX chickens, or rather, my husband does. Me, I don't care if I ever eat meat again, don't have the taste for it and usually, I don't like the texture. (except for bacon. baconbaconbaconbaconbacon!).

The one that I use is pretty far from you ... check Craigslist. I see them advertised for rent there from time to time.

Ok so i laughed so hard today at my girls...I gave them some fresh fish eggs today, a reward for having to stay cooped up all day. They were hilarious running around trying to get the piece the others had...I am going to video it tomorrow and post!

For those of you that are following my case. The chickens got 6 months probation as long as they don't cross the road they will not pay a fine or go to jail!!!!
