So not an infection. That would've been much easier. Is it getting bigger over time?

Could be a parasite like a Botfly or Flystrike. The inflamed part becomes whats called a warble where the parasite lays eggs under the skin and the babies hatch out and grow making the lump bigger. Or, It could be a cancer or tumor. Chickens can get cancers all over their bodies.

Well you could get a needle and see what comes out or take a razor blade and cut it and see if you can get something out of it and then use super glue to put it back together or stitch it. make sure you clean it before and after with betadine.

I have the worst BO mom in the world she hatches them then looses them, I found one in the tall grass just a crying and mom no where to be found and she is still sitting on eggs so now I have 3 more babies added to my ever growing collection in the bathroom.
