YO GEORGIANS! :)

Japanese, not Chinese. And I really didn't pay any attention to any claims about them being the first ... I was too focused on the cool factor and the science. Nice to see the older trials/experiments. I will be reading up on them for comparative data ... anything that I can do to try to increase my odds for success.

Are you doing this as a class project? Did you change anything? I think the air holes should be towards the bottom, too?

Were any of your Naked Necks frizzles?

The Japanese kids are doing the demonstration in the video, but in the headline, Chinese students are the ones who are attributed to having invented the method.

As a high-school student with a strong interest in biology back in the mid-1970s, I remember well the story of Bruce Dunn. It was featured in the news back then, and I was very impressed with his achievement. Therefore, it irks me that a group of people would try to rip off Dunn's discovery and present it as their own.

Once upon a time I served on editorial review board for a couple of scholarly journals, and I was very keen to look for plagiarism when reviewing manuscripts. My field was educational technology, and I knew the literature well enough back then that I would know when someone was faking it.

My other pet peeve was when a researcher did not strictly adhere to the scientific method when conducting research, presenting findings, and drawing conclusions. That is the big problem with much of science today; politics often overshadow honest research, and as a result, shoddy research of often goes to publication. It's a sad state of affairs.

For now I am working on it at home. I want to have worked out some of the kinks before trying to present it to students.

The holes that you see them making are in the plastic wrap. The hole in the cup is lower. In mine, I have it closer to the bottom.

No, no frizzles. That is another thing that I will need to add eventually for the classroom visits.
