I want to try quail at some point. My husband doesn't think it'd be worth the effort. We'll see.

I processed 7 more chickens today, this time by myself. It took forever and I'm burned. 12 more to go. But I did get to have fun in the pool after and we shot off a bunch of fireworks. Pretty good 4th of July. Hope you all had a good one.

How are they to gut? It's such a pain gutting chickens and quails holes are so much smaller.

Quail, duck & dove are super easy to deal with IMO. But, after you process your own deer, most things seem easy in my experience.

The farm-raised coturnix quail I processed had no smell when gutting and cleaning, but maybe wild-game bob whites do. I've never hunted wild quail or woodcock, so I don't know the answer on that one.

Woodcock, dove, quail...none of it has a discernible smell to me. But I sure do like them smothered in gravy over rice or smoked with some bacon & jalapeño!
