YO GEORGIANS! :)

ok this is Shirley... i was told when i bought her that she was an Americana,,,i know there is an Americauna chicken, im confused...what would ya'll say she is?? i've included a pic of her sister Laverne, who has the tumor on her neck.
They don't have the cheek muffs, so I'd say they are easter eggers. Most of the time americaunas turn out to be easter eggers. Just means they are a mix and might lay blue eggs for you.

ugh...sorta makes me ill!
again another reason i will not be buying chicks from that particular feed store again!
The blue egg laying breeds are Araucana, Ameraucana or Crested Cream Legbars. My rule of thumb is that if someone can't spell the breed they're selling, I'm not buying. There just have to be minimum education requirements at some point. This is my personal line in the sand. As discussed much previously, all others that lay blue eggs are Easter Eggers.

ETA you know far too many people with good birds to fall for feed store chicks.

It's a common complaint. In all fairness, the hatchery folks probably were the ones who labeled the chicks as Ameraucana. I saw some nice ones for sale at the Newnan show and talked with the breeders for awhile. I wish I had gotten a card from them, so I could give you their info. It's best to get that breed directly from a breeder. BTW, Ameraucana LF are HUGE birds.

I think I didn't get it all. It felt empty when I was doing it but everything was slimy and a mess. Now her crop is egg sized and firm with slight give. So I'm thinking there is more in there. :( She keeps making the neck movement like she's going to throw up. I am probably going to open her again when I get more stitches.
I'm going to do some chicken surgery myself in just a bit. I have a couple of fat Cornish X from Aldi that I'm about to spatchcock, season, and toss into the smoker for a couple of hours.
