I.went out to make sure all my chickens were sleeping where they are.supposed to. My little girl silkies decided they want to sleep in. The open side of there pin so I had to put them in the closed.side in case it rained. Not that it is supposed to rain tonight but if it did I was.afraid.the silkies.wouldnt get.up and.move. to the closed side. Better safe then sorry. There all doing great in there new home.

Sorta off the chicken subject, but not really, looks like I get to go back into my boot for my ankle.:hit..its been giving me fits, but yesterday really did me in preparing the new big coop for fencing....this sucks! fingers crossed:fl i only have to wear it a few days to calm the swelling and pain down!:(
Ankles take a while.to really repair correctly. Hope it doesn't set you back to much. Get well soon.

Hatching Update! Then there were five! :)

BTW, the Birchen Satin Silkie boy and Smokey the Chocolate Cuckoo Orpington are the only birds still available. They are free. Also, now have five new Ayam Cemani chicks for sale @$25 apiece.

(4) 40" extra-large dog crates are still available @ $40 each. All are less than six-months old. Perfect for transporting birds to shows and/or swaps. Each cage comes with a partition.

PM if interested in any of the above.
so glad about your hatch! Remember, I will take Smokey if nobody else wants him.. He is gorgeous!

Sometimes I just feel done with all this. A dog ripped into the welded wire I had on my turkey tractor and tore apart my turkeys. All four of them, including Georgie, who I am very attached to and was very attached to me. Killed them all and then moved on to try to kill a chicken I have penned up next to the house. My husband heard the chicken fussing, checked, and shot at the dog. He said it took off, so I'm not sure if he missed. It looks like it also tried to get into my silkie pen but failed. I wish I could actually hear things that are going on out in the yard. I don't hear anything in the house. Damn dogs.

put a baby monitor on your back porch with the receiver in the house. That's what i normally do. I'm so sorry about your babies.....

Agree. This is awful. I'm so sorry!! I think I have an old baby monitor if you want it. I may also have some extra half inch hardware cloth if you think it might help. ((Hugs))

My animals are pretty far from the house so I don't know if a baby monitor would work but thanks for the idea. I'll ask my husband what he thinks. The turkeys had regular welded wire fencing like what the goats are in. The dog tore a hole in it and lifted the 100+ lb pen enough to free the turkeys do he could kill them. That's all that was in the pen. The other birds should be secure but who knows. I thought the turkeys were secure.

Very sorry to hear about this. Dogs were always the #1 predator I was in which I had a concern. They kill just for the sport of it. However, I blame the dog owners because they are the irresponsible ones who failed to secure their dog(s). Do you have any idea whose dog attacked your turkeys?
