YO GEORGIANS! :)

My chickens are in large runs. I let them in the yard only when I am home. They act like any other chickens and go in the coop at night with no problem. Last summer I had Marans made nest in the woods, but I found her soon.
Show leghorns are bigger than regulars, but still Leghorns. I have 6' fence and they rarely try to escape.
I noticed that the chickens have stage when around 14 to 16 weeks of age when sometimes they try to sleep on trees, or bushes, but when they are not let to do it, they soon forget it. My Gold Sex links tried to do it for few nights this fall.

I've got some mixed breed cockerels in need of re-homing. I'm in north Forsyth County (Cumming). The were all hatched about 11 weeks ago.

This one in the middle of the doorway has a cream legbar mom and dad was most likely my olive egger roo due to the beard.

The one in the foreground has an olive egger mom. Dad is either the olive egger or the blue cuckoo maran.

This one is a ceram legbar mom and dad is defintely the olive egger. He's the only one with five toes and this little guy has five toes on both feet.

Here's a better picture of two of the boys peeking around in the first picture. Both were from olive egger hens. I'm not really sure about the one on the left: possibly the olive egger again or maybe the blue cuckoo maran. The one on the right I'd have said his dad was definitely the cuckoo maran with the plumage but the crest makes me think the olive egger got lucky again.

They're all free to whoever wants them.

I’m in Southeast Georgia in Charlton County

Gwinnett County here.
Anyone doing extra efforts to combat our freeze this week? Thinking of adding some hay bales around the outside of the coop. And ordered a couple heat plates jic.

I’m near Savannah and I’m not doing anything different.

Last year we got down to 16 degrees or so and my chickens were chilly but fine. I only worry if it stays below freezing for a few days or is very windy or wet, I have Naked Necks though. Fully feathered chickens are fine for more sustained lower temperatures.

Sounds like I should forego the bales, and play-by-ear with the heat plate. One 9-month-old started molting about a month ago. Tried to tell her it wasn't a good time. smh :) Luckily, it has been a very mild neck and head molt. Poor thing is still bullied off the roosting bar at night but seems okay in the nesting box.

Hi, everyone. We are building in Metter, Georgia, moving from a couple hours away in the lowcountry of South Carolina (Varnville). I currently have six beautiful laying hens, under two years old, they give me 3 - 5 big beautiful eggs every day, and I need to find a new place for them to be safe and sound. Would anyone like to adopt my six laying hens?
Are they still available ?
