Anyone in Georgia raising Dark Cornish?
I thought about it but I think it’s too hot here near Savannah. They are big bodied and have such small combs and wattles, which all point to trouble in hot weather. Maybe further north or in the mountains, or if you have big fans in the coop…

I have Naked Necks instead, big birds but fewer feathers and big combs and wattles. They handle the heat way better than any fully feathered breed I’ve had. And they are great moms so they raise all my meat for me, which is a huge plus because I don’t like raising chicks in a brooder.

Dark Cornish do okay in 8a/8b zones. I had Dark Cornish and Jumbo Cornish Hybrid Crosses. I did have fans in my coop when it was over 100 degrees. I never had a bird die of heat. I also raised Turkens. They were nowhere close to the quality of a Dark Cornish.

Hi Georgia peeps! I just got a new job in Augusta Georgia and I'll be moving to the area this summer. I have six silkies: four hens and two roosters. I'm looking to live in an area within an hour's drive of Augusta, to the west of the city. Does anyone have any suggestions about general areas that allow roosters? I've started checking zoning laws but I'm struggling to make headway in the more rural areas.
