YO GEORGIANS! :)

Very good. Way to be proactive, that could've gotten nasty. :) (as we all know)..

*** so. Someone tell me not to get hatching eggs yet. Remind me what a pain it is to have chicks in winter. Remind me I do not want to have to keep them inside past the first week or so. Remind me of all the bad things about hatching in January? I'm needing help and I'm NOT feeling very patient for spring. :(

Thanks!!

Thanks!!
But just think.....they will be close to laying by summer if you hatch them now! Otherwise, you will be waiting until Fall/Winter! I've hatched all sorts of eggs in the winter. At 10 days old, I take them outside to play in a sunny area everyday. They get use to it very quickly. However, I do wait until around 3 months before putting them with the big girls.

How many are you planning on hatching?

@Flowerbh - not helping!! ;) That is what keeps killing me.. I could be getting eggs by June or so! :/

@Jharper - only 6-10 maybe, which is also why I keep thinking, "no big deal!"

Sweet!! I'm thinking I'll probably end up caving sometime in Jan.. I'm holding out for a deal on something gold-laced, that's my newest obsession, lol. Would love to get a nice new roo out of the deal but hopeful that I won't end up with MOSTLY Roos. That's the risk.

Speaking of chicks -

I let one of our serama/banty hens hatch out three chicks which are now about 3 weeks old.....with the crazy weather here....80 1 day, 30s /low 40s a few days later, rain/wind, humid heat, etc the three chicks started having respiratory issues. So guess who has 3 tiny chicks inside now?

They are really stinkin' cute at least

and doing much better, too.

Speaking of hatching chicks, we have the incubator filled up right now with about 30 eggs. Can't wait to see how many hatch! We are going to set up a nursery specifically for the babies. How is everyone keeping their chicks warm this winter?
