YO GEORGIANS! :)

Speaking of other threads, I was just reading one in the hatchery forum..... dude lost an entire shipment of 25 chicks because the postman went nuts over the box making noise and killed them. And then had a shipment accidentally delivered to him that was meant for a big farm.... 1,000 leghorns. And they let him keep them. WTH!? Where do you put a 1,000 chicks? LOL!!
Wow! All I can say is WOW!

I know, right?   His was like the 2nd post in a 2 page thread.... and not one single comment about either of these little factoids.  How does stuff like that go unnoticed?  My inquiring mind had to know so I asked for follow up.

It's because you have too much time on your hands. Shouldn't you be building a coop or something? Lol

Okay so bathtime was... eventful! I couldn't do it last night because of hot water wars in the house. But I got them just now. I learned that the roo only had PART mud on him. A lot of it apparently was blood from his comb and face, thanks to other roosters while they were in the laundry room. I got a good bit though. He'll also apparently have to grow some feathers back in on his face.

But he's clean, and eating and drinking on top of the incubator next to me right now. The black hen I wasn't worried about. She has a little spiky hair-do, but otherwise she's relatively clean. She isn't caked with mud, so her fluffy butt can insulate her own body just fine. The white hen got a bath too, and she's huddled up next to the hair dryer right now. Well, as good as she can be, because Black Fluffy Butt keeps standing in front of the hair dryer with the warm air blowing on... her butt. It's a funny sight, for sure!

I set a nest box on top of the trash can lid beside the incubator though. Both girls are laying, and NOBODY is going back outside until they are dry, so I gave them something to lay in, just in case.

I have pictures of a pathetic, wet roo, but my phone is being stupid about uploading them. I'll get them up as soon as it lets me!

Good Morning (early afternoon?) Everybody :)

I've been thinking about birds a bunch this week. No surprise, given the addiction issues we all seem to encourage in each other ;). So, I've come to the conclusion that if I'm going to get EE chicks this year, I'd like to find some as soon as possible -like now- or I'll probably wait until next spring. We will be out of town at the end of April, and I'd rather not ask my critter sitters to care for a full brooder -again. Or should I say, my critter sitter would prefer if I don't do that again, lol., especially since the rabbitry kind of doubled since the last trip! If I wait until after, I won't get pretty eggs until around October :(. So, Anyone got any leads on EE chicks available real soon?

HAHA! Picturing a pouty chicken fluff-drying her butt -if that doesn't make you at least grin, you need help!
