Oh and I just thought of something else I've been meaning to ask. For those of you who build enclosures with 1" chicken wire, what height do you use and where do you get it? I am having issues finding 6' chicken wire. Every feed store I ask says they'll have to order it. And what gauge wire do you use? The last roll we bought just seemed "soft" to me as compared to the older stuff we started out with.

I think I'm going to make a trip to Ladd's in Cartersville tomorrow. Just to walk around and look at all their stuff. I'm about ready to embark on a new chicken pen. This one, as planned at the moment, will be 100 feet long by 50 feet wide. I have this idea in my head that it will be split in two sections in order to keep specific species separated and the chicks pure of blood. The coop, as planned at the moment, will be in the center. It will have roosts for both sides only accessible from their respective sides and we can pass through it to get from one pen to the other without having to walk out of the pen and back into the other side. It's a plan in progress.

Any master carpenters here that want to stop by?

Before southern states went out of business I bought my wire from them. They always had 4' rolls at 175' long for $55 in stock. Not sure on the gauge but you saw my silkie enclosure if that helps.

I want to keep with the 6' wire.  Feed, Seed and Bicycles in Dallas told me he could get 6' 150 foot rolls for just under 100 bucks.  2 of those rolls would do what I want.  I just can't for the life of me figure out why nobody keeps it in stock.  Even TSC only ever has 1 roll at the most and it's usually 50 foot rolls.

@Chickenrunner83 wonder if they deliver. We need the 6'

If we pay pal you can you deliver us 2 of thos rolls?

Why are turkeys/poults/eggs so expensive??? I can get them for $8 each at Kroger in the fall. I'm having a hard time justifying the cost since we want them for eating...

You are most likely looking at turkey eggs that are fertile, meaning that someone: 1) had to have turkeys that would breed naturally, so a heritage breed, 2) managed to grow out poults to adult breeding condition when poults are notorious for killing themselves in foolish ways 3) collected the eggs safely (turkeys lay only once every 2-3 days, and very seasonally -shorter season than chickens. Oh, and they can be hard to get to use a nest, making finding the little buggers hard. Snakes and raccoons often find the eggs first.)

That's why I agree with LT; get your own turkeys and keep the eggs for yourself, or sell them, or both!
